We have another retirement to close out the year! After more than three decades of extraordinary service, Senior Paramedic Sylvia Feder is retiring, leaving behind a legacy defined by compassion and education. She began her journey with KCM1 in September of 1991 as part of Class 18, following earlier service as a Firefighter/EMT in Alaska.

Throughout her career as a paramedic, and various leadership and educational roles, Sylvia became known not only for her clinical excellence but for the endless lessons she taught on calls, during training, and in everyday moments that shaped generations of providers. Her passion for teaching and education is unmistakable; she believes deeply in lifting others up, sharing knowledge, and building confident, compassionate clinicians.

One accomplishment Sylvia is especially proud of is contributing to the advancement of medical knowledge, including work referenced here, a reflection of her dedication to evidence-based care and lifelong learning: https://bit.ly/4qqrwq6

Sylvia has expressed that taking care of patients, working side by side with her firefighter and paramedic partners, teaching, learning, and being part of this profession are things she’s loved beyond measure. While she notes she will miss it forever, her impact will continue through the countless lives she touched, the students she mentored, and the standards she set.

Congratulations, Sylvia, on a remarkable career and a well-earned retirement! πŸš¨πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

After more than three decades of service, today we celebrate the retirement of an extraordinary paramedic whose career has been defined by dedication, skill, and compassion: Jason Davis.

Beginning in 1990 with Graham Fire and North Bend Fire Academy Class 92-2, Jason built a strong foundation for his career of service. In 1994, he completed paramedic school at Daniel Freeman and continued his education with Harborview's Paramedic Training soon after, serving with Medic One for 30 years! His steady presence, clinical excellence, and commitment to patients and partners alike became a hallmark of his career.

Thank you for your years of service, sacrifice, and dedication to this profession and to the communities you served, Jason! Wishing you a well-deserved and meaningful retirement and endless rounds of golf. You’ve truly earned it!

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a true pillar of our KCM1 family and community. Mel McClure, who was hired as one of the original paramedics for KCM1 in 1976 (then Highline Medic One), dedicated his life to serving others with unmatched kindness, resilience, and altruism. A clear example of that can be found in this Rescue 911 episode that features Mel- https://youtu.be/U2pNUY7JRvI?si=8S6A0S-qWPhxC0Ng

In the early 2000s, Mel retired from KCM1 but never stopped serving. As a gifted Chaplain, he continued to care for people from all walks of life. Beyond his patient care and chaplaincy service, Mel played a key role in mentoring the next generation of emergency responders. Whether through the Z3 Cadets and Fire Explorers or his work with the Z3 Rehab unit at fires, he instilled the values of dedication and community service and inspired others to do the same.

It is impossible to count the lives he touched, the people he mentored, and the many acts of kindness he shared. We are grateful for all the memories we share and his example of true servant leadership. We will honor and continue his legacy by reflecting fondly and through compassionate care. Rest in peace, Mel.

Memorial service details will be shared when available.
