Honestly, I never imagined being a Chiropractor. I had graduated with a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology and was happily working in Cardiac Rehab for almost ten years before I felt the “Call” to pursue a “healing” profession.
The “Call” didn’t just happen. It came about two years after receiving chiropractic for my self and my family. The birth of my daughter, about four years earlier, was quite difficult and long with 26 hours of labor, as well as a cesarean birth. I discovered chiropractic care when I finally had enough of the muscle spasms that would lock up my low back. Every time I bent over to lift my daughter out of her crib, my low back would tighten and I felt like an 80 year old woman who could not stand up straight.
So when I was working in Cardiac Rehab I would counsel people on positive healthy lifestyle changes. However, it was always after a heart attack or heart surgery. I worked with an amazing team, and lots of people changed their lives for the better and became much healthier. Yet, I was not making a difference until a person had some sort of damage or impairment to their heart.
The “Call” was to serve people, young and old, and help them live better quality lives from even before birth. Deep down I wanted other mom’s to experience a wonderful pregnancy, which I did have, but to also have greater ease with labor and delivery, which I did not. To this day, I believe my birth experience would have been different had I discovered chiropractic before I was pregnant. I can’t say I would not have had a C-section, but knowing what I know now, I would have made some different choices with the whole birth experience.
