COVID-19 Update

Dear Families of the Lodge at Arbor Village:

As you know we have been vigorously testing all residents and staff at the Lodge at Arbor Village and have been for nearly two months, beginning when we had our first positive case. On May 26, 2020 we provided an update on our efforts and the latest results. We want to update you on the latest information.

As of today, June 5, 2020, we have had a total of 20 residents test positive. Sadly, we have had five residents succumb to this disease. Four residents remain hospitalized. Nine residents are residing in our quarantine unit, and are being attended to by designated staff in full body PPE, including body suits, N95 masks, face shields and gloves. Two residents have fully recovered. We do not consider anyone that has been symptomatic or tested positive COVID-19 free until we receive two consecutive negative tests.

Among our courageous staff, we have had a total of 13 test positive. Seven have fully recovered and six remain home in isolation. Like residents, staff must have two consecutive negative tests to be considered COVID-19 free, even if asymptomatic.

We continue to take action to combat the acquisition or transmission of this virus, including all staff using appropriate PPE when caring for any resident, continued deep cleaning and disinfecting, and continued enhanced monitoring, screening and testing. We will keep you apprised of further developments.

Dear Residents and Families of Arbor Village:

As you know we have been proactively testing all residents and staff at the Lodge at Arbor Village. Because we had a negative test followed by a positive test in few people, we have pushed forward with a third round of testing to ensure we know exactly what we are dealing with.

We wanted to let you know that we had a resident test positive in the third round after testing negative twice. The results were received today, April 24, 2020. The resident has been moved to our quarantine unit, where they are being attended to by staff in full body PPE. The quarantine unit is physically separated from the rest of the community.

This brings our total positive cases among residents to four, with three residing in the quarantine unit. Our positive employee count remains at two, with both employees at home in self isolation and consulting their healthcare providers.

We will continue with our third round of testing and will update you as things develop.

Please keep our residents and staff in your thoughts and prayers.

Enhanced screening of every staff member, every day, before every shift, which includes physical temperature checks. If a staff member is suspected of being symptomatic or has a positive test, they are being sent home immediately, asked to self-isolate and contact their healthcare provider.
Only Essential Visitors are allowed and then only for essential visits. Essential visitors will be screened under the same protocol as our staff.

Enhance monitoring of all residents for any change of condition as well as COVID-19 symptoms.

If a resident is suspected to have COVID-19, they will be sent to the hospital for evaluation and testing if their physician so orders.
Depending on health authority guidance and orders, we may conduct our own testing with fully trained personnel.
If it becomes necessary to bring a positive resident home from the hospital or keep a resident that is positive, they will be placed in a quarantine area, physical separated from the remainder of the community.

Designate staff in full body PPE will attend to resident in a quarantine unit.

Positive residents will remain in the quarantine unit until considered to be COVID-19 free.

Staff have been retrained on infection control and hygiene.
Staff are provided with PPE and will be gloved and masked while attending to residents.

Social distancing is in force.

Enhanced deep cleaning and disinfecting, including the use of anti-viral foggers.

Group activities are strictly limited and then only with social distancing.

Common area dining are closed for the time being and all meals are being served in resident apartments with disposable products.

Thank you all for your continued trust in us, and please keep all of our residents and our staff in your thoughts and prayers.

COVID-19 Update April 22, 2020: The Lodge at Arbor Village

Dear Residents and Families:

As you know from prior communications, we had an initial resident positive test come back on April 10, 2020. The testing was done at a hospital when the resident was sent out for a change of condition. Consistent with guidance and directive from health authorities, we immediately began testing staff and residents. After two rounds of testing, we have a total of three positive residents and two positive employees. Both employees are at home in isolation. Of the three residents, two are residing in our special quarantine unit attended to by designated staff in full body PPE.

We are very sad to report that one of the positive residents succumbed to the disease while at the hospital on April 20, 2020. Our deepest sympathy goes out the family and our caring staff that provided comfort. Because one resident and one staff member initially tested negative and then tested positive on the second round, we are conducting a third round of tests.

Sincerely,
Thomas E. Stanley

COVID-19 Update April 18, 2020: Update on Testing at the Lodge at Arbor Village
Dear Residents and Families of the Lodge at Arbor Village:

In the interest of transparency, we wanted to give you an update regarding the positive COVID-19 tests at the Lodge at Arbor Village, the Memory Care Community on the Arbor Village campus. We have completed one round of testing on all residents and staff. Unfortunately, we did have one additional resident test positive, bringing the resident count to two. One resident is still in the hospital and one is being cared for in the quarantine unit we set up yesterday. The resident is being attended to by designated staff in full body PPE and the quarantine unit is separated from the rest of the community with physical barriers.

We also had one asymptomatic staff member test positive in the first testing phase and they are isolating at home. The positive test came back on April 15, 2020 and they went home immediately. We have also had one other asymptomatic associate that tested negative on the first test, but positive on the second test. Neither positive associate will return to The Lodge until determined to be COVID-19 free. Please be assured that we followed our protocols strictly on the positive associates. We send anyone home immediately that is symptomatic based on our screening and/or has a positive test result. In both associate cases at The Lodge it was a positive result, not the display of symptoms, that led to the directive to isolate at home.

Please know that we have tested every Arbor Village employee on the campus that has been in The Lodge recently. We are nearing completion of the second round of testing on all residents and staff that were negative. Our protocol is to test all negative persons twice to avoid a potential false negative result.

Please know that we are vigilant and on high alert. Please keep all of our residents and dedicated staff in your thoughts and prayers. Finally, thank you for giving us the honor of serving you. We will get through this together.

How Can I Disinfect My House Naturally? 🌿🧽🧹
Resistance to using natural products as disinfectants stem from the belief that they are not as powerful as their toxic chemical counterparts. However, with a little research and creativity, there are all-natural options which safely disinfect without any harmful residue for you or your family.

1. Vinegar
This clean, natural and biodegradable liquid is more than a cooking product. A powerful, natural disinfectant that can be used to clean your sweat-stained clothes, wash your dishes, clean rusty tools, and remove hard water deposits. It also acts as a deodorizer and easily cuts through grease.

2. Hydrogen Peroxide
It’s an incredible natural, biodegradable compound. Also known as oxygen bleach. It can be used for your laundry, bathroom and kitchen cleaning, greasy pots and pans, and kids toys. Use it as a spray, create a paste with baking soda, or use it for soaking. 👉 Word of advice: don’t mix vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. They cancel each other out if mixed. It’s better to use them one after another. The order doesn’t matter!

3. Alcohol
A great natural disinfectant, and a common ingredient in many hand sanitizers and disinfectants. It can be used as a disinfectant for surfaces, as an ingredient in DYI cleaners (especially window cleaners!) and to remove bad odour from your laundry.

4. Essential oils
These concentrated liquids are distilled from plants. Studies have shown that essential oils such as lavender oil, clove oil and many others have natural antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties.

Use TV Time To Exercise
Seniors can get in some exercise while they watch their favorite TV programs. If your loved one enjoys yoga or Pilates, he or she can roll out a mat and do ten minutes of stretches while watching an afternoon talk show. If your loved one prefers aerobic exercise, he or she can put on a pair of sneakers and do jumping jacks while watching a sitcom. To live a more active life, your loved one should look for ways to turn traditionally sedentary activities like watching TV into opportunities to exercise more.
