It’s probably not new news to hear that in order to care for others, we need to care for ourselves. (thank goodness, that information is more widely shared!)
We can practice self-care in so many ways! We can sprinkle bits of self-care from the moment we wake, ‘til the moment we close our eyes for slumber. We can also schedule longer self-care sessions – retreats, lunch with a friend, massage, etc.
One of my go-to self-care routines upon waking is “no electronic devices” for the first 20-30 minutes. My go-to longer self-care items include regular massage appointments, exercise and meditation.
Recently, I’ve decided to “try new things” more often! On Saturday, we were invited to a Formal Attire Poker Party with some dear friends. My “stuck” self, wanted to just observe others while they played in order to avoid the embarrassment of not knowing how to play the game. However, with the encouragement of friends, and the willingness to “try new things,” I joined in the game and had a blast. I can say, I still really don’t understand it, but that’s OK! Isn’t that how things go in most arenas anyway? “An expert at anything was once a beginner!” (H. Jackson Brown, Jr.)
What are some of your favorite self-care routines?
