Following the July 4th flood, Kathy Turner, a counselor we later hired to offer counseling to our community; shared insight on how community trauma can reshape our relationship with familiar places—like the Guadalupe—especially for a new generation.
Feelings of guilt, grief, and loss can exist all at once, and acknowledging them is part of the healing process. Please know you aren't alone if you are feeling this way.

✨ Counselor Introduction: Karen Mattox, LPC-A ✨

Karen Mattox is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate at New Hope Counseling, where she brings compassion, warmth, and a genuine heart for helping others. Seniors are a special passion of Karen’s, and she also enjoys supporting individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and loss.

A Kerrville native, born and raised, Karen is deeply connected to the community she serves. She is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and describes herself as a natural helper—drawn to counseling because she believes in the powerful, direct impact it can have on a person’s life.

Karen’s counseling approach centers on guidance and empowerment. She works to help clients become aware of their options, especially during difficult seasons, so they can move forward feeling informed, supported, and hopeful.

In 2026, New Hope Counseling celebrates 34 years of serving Kerr County and surrounding seven counties through quality counseling and educational services.🎉

As we begin this new year, we wanted to take a moment to share a little about who we are—and to remind our community that we are here to help.

Our nonprofit is made up of six counselors and four office staff—a small team with a mighty heart for serving those in need. We offer compassionate counseling in both English and Spanish, supporting individuals and families through a wide range of life’s challenges. We proudly serve clients in all stages of life, beginning at age 4 and up.

In response to the July 4th flood last year, we were honored to provide counseling services free of charge to individuals and families impacted by the disaster—because showing up for our community when it matters most is at the heart of what we do. This is a service we are able to continue for 2026 and 2027 due to the generosity of community grants and donations.

Over the coming weeks, we look forward to introducing you to the team who make all this work possible. 💚💙
