COVID-19 is a novel (new strand) of Coronavirus that effects the respiratory system. Coronavirus(s) cause mild to moderate symptoms. Symptoms include cough, fever, and shortness of breath. COVID-19 may require hospitalization if increased shortness of breath occurs.
Our number one priority is patient safety. We continue to treat every sick patient “contagious” as we always have and sanitize rooms in between patients. We also provide a mask to every patient with the above symptoms. As of now, there is no local testing for COVID-19, however the ability to be tested is available in Texas within lab locations close proximity to Kerrville. Please note that you will need to been seen and tested for Flu first (it’s important to rule out Influenza, there is medicine available to decrease severity/length of Flu). If you meet additional criteria, we are able to have testing for Covid-19 completed. If you do not meet criteria for testing, it is best practice for “presumptive diagnosis” to self-quarantine for 14-day period within your home isolated from other family and friends.
The best way to treat and prevent the spread is HAND WASHING, HAND WASHING, HAND WASHING!
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is best practice. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, especially with unwashed hands
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and hard surfaces
• Stay home when you are sick.
• “Cover your cough” by coughing into elbow or tissue. Throw tissue into trash and wash hands.
It is not recommended the use of masks if you are not currently sick. Wearing mask does not prevent you from getting viral contracted illness. The purpose of wearing a mask is to prevent "sick person" germs from infecting others. Masks are only needed for patients who are demonstrating signs of viral respiratory illness to help keep “cough covered”. Some Immune compromised patients are recommend to wear mask during viral peak season when in public. These patients should follow their oncologist recommendations.
We are here to see, screen, treat, and help with any and all of our patients. Please feel free to call if you have any additional questions or concerns you may have.
