🌟 Calling all community helpers supporting our flood-impacted families! 🌟
We know that when the load is heavy, stepping away for half a day can feel impossible. But if you are showing up every day to help others recover, this is for you.
Join us THIS FRIDAY for the Sustaining the Supporters workshop! By popular demand, we are bringing this back for those who missed it. This isn’t a generic wellness session; it’s a practical, evidence-informed workshop designed specifically for people doing the hard work of helping others in the wake of disaster.
You will be equipped with real tools to support your community while also sustaining yourself. You don’t have to be burning out to benefit! We promise a fun, interactive, and practically useful session.
📅 When: This Friday, March 6, 2026 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍 Where: Kerrville Church of Christ, 1900 Loop 534, Kerrville, TX 78028
What to expect:
• A free Hummingly “Doing Well” deck for attendees!
• A light lunch provided afterwards to connect with fellow supporters.
💙 Know someone carrying a lot right now? Shoulder-tap an amazing team member, forward them this post, and give them a gentle nudge that says, “This will be worth your time.” Sometimes that personal encouragement makes all the difference!

We are over halfway through our Rest & Reset TEEN event at The Kroc Center, and everything has been so much fun! 💙
Partnering with HCCADA, we’ve been learning positive, evidence-based strategies to cope with stress, trauma, and grief. A huge thank you to 5NP Texas for being here to do their 5 Needle Ear Acupuncture Protocol to promote stress reduction—it was an amazing experience! ✨
If you couldn’t make it today but still want to join in on the healing, you can stop by our emotional support center at 819 Water St. in Kerrville, TX, to pick up your very own “Story Builders” packet! It’s a playable guide to your brain, your feelings, and your superpowers. 🧠📖
Please subscribe and follow our page so we can keep in touch for future events! We love connecting with our community. Check out these snapshots from the session! 👇📸

After a disaster strikes, the physical cleanup is only half the battle. True recovery involves healing the invisible wounds left behind. 💙
For first responders and volunteers, stepping up during a crisis takes an immense emotional toll. So, why is sharing your story so important to the healing process?
🗣️ Processing Trauma: Putting experiences into words helps the brain process and make sense of overwhelming events, moving them out of the “fight or flight” center of the brain.
🤝 Building Connection: Sharing your journey breaks the silence of isolation. It reminds you—and others who hear it—that you aren’t alone in what you’re feeling.
🌱 Improving Future Support: Your firsthand insights help organizations understand exactly what kind of mental health support volunteers actually need on the ground.
If you stepped up to volunteer as a first responder during the July 2025 Central Texas floods, your voice matters. Texas State University’s Translational Health Research Center is currently seeking volunteers to share their experiences to help improve disaster mental health response.
Study Details:
🕒 60-90 minute interview & short emotional health assessments
🎁 $75 gift card for participants
👤 Must be 18+ and have volunteered with an official organization
To participate or learn more, scan the QR code on the flyer or reach out to Dr. Elizabeth Ekren at syd14@txstate.edu.
(Note: Additional mental health support is available if needed through Hill Country MHDD).

You don’t need a grueling hour-long workout to hit the reset button. Sometimes, all it takes is 10 to 15 minutes to completely shift your mood. ☀️
In this video, Diego from Texans Recovering Together shares his favorite way to decompress: getting outside and juggling a soccer ball. Whether you’re kicking a ball around, going for a brisk walk, or just moving your body in the sunlight, stepping away for a short break is a highly effective way to manage stress.
Why a quick break works:
• Instant Relief: Research shows that just 10 to 15 minutes of physical activity actively lowers stress hormones like cortisol while releasing endorphins, your body’s natural mood elevators.
• The Statistics: According to a Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health study, replacing just 15 minutes of sitting with 15 minutes of vigorous movement (like running or chasing a soccer ball) can reduce the risk of major depression by 26%.
• Better Focus: A University of Tsukuba study found that merely 10 minutes of moderate activity significantly increases blood flow to the brain’s prefrontal cortex, instantly improving mood and cognitive control. 🧠⚽
You don’t have to be a pro athlete to get the benefits. It’s all about getting that energy out, taking a breather, and enjoying the fresh air!
Share your favorite coping skill with us and let us know how this one works for you if you decide to try it out. 👇

Humans are the only species that can consciously regulate breathing to manually control our stress levels.

When life feels like it’s moving too fast, you have a built-in “pause button.” A slow, deep exhale signals your heart to slow down and your muscles to relax. You don’t need to change your whole situation to change how you feel right now. Just breathe out.

Sometimes, all we need is a little help grounding ourselves. Kasey shares a simple yet powerful coping skill: stimulating your senses to help manage anxiety.

Create a Sensory Bag! It uses your 5 senses to help ground you during high-anxiety moments.
Pack it with:
✅ Something to touch (fidget toy)
✅ Something to taste (gum/mints)
✅ Something to hear (rattle)
✅ Something to smell (lotion)
✅ Something to see (affirmation/photo)
What works best for you? Let us know!

The brain cannot actually multitask. It simply switches rapidly between tasks, which burns up your energy. In a season of rebuilding and organizing, it’s tempting to try and do everything at once. But giving yourself permission to do just one thing at a time isn’t lazy—it’s scientifically healthier. meaningful recovery happens in moments, not marathons. Take a breath. The rest can wait a moment. Feeling scattered? We can help you find your focus. 📧 CCP@hillcountry.org
