Non-medical home care is about real-life support that keeps your loved one safe, comfortable, and independent. It includes companionship, help around the house, transportation to appointments, hygiene support, medication reminders, and standby assistance throughout the day. There’s no medical equipment or procedures—just thoughtful care built around everyday needs and routines. Whether it’s preparing a meal, offering a ride, or simply sharing a conversation, we’re here to make life easier at home.

Strong social connections aren’t just ā€œnice to haveā€ as we age—they’re essential. šŸ’›

The CDC and National Institute on Aging highlight a striking truth: older adults who engage socially experience 2x higher life satisfaction. That’s not just a number—it’s a life-changing difference. Meaningful relationships help older adults stay mentally sharp, emotionally resilient, and physically healthier. Conversation, laughter, shared routines, and simply feeling known can reduce loneliness, support brain health, and improve overall quality of life.

At Touching Hearts at Home, we see this every day. Care isn’t only about tasks—it’s about connection. Because growing older was never meant to be done alone.

(And let’s be honest… everything’s better with good company. ā˜•šŸ˜Š)

January can be especially hard for older adults—cold days, fewer visitors, and post-holiday quiet can all contribute to feelings of isolation. That’s why consistent companionship and social connection matter more than ever. A friendly visit, a warm conversation, or simply being present can lift spirits and support emotional wellness. We’re here to bring connection, kindness, and community—no matter the weather.

A deck of cards can do so much more than pass the time. ā™ ļøā™„ļø

Card games with our clients support cognitive stimulation, emotional wellness, and meaningful connection—all while creating laughter and shared moments.

Care is about engagement, not just assistance. And we love every hand we’re dealt.

Winter is the perfect time to slow down and lean into the little things that bring us comfort. ā„ļø Whether it’s warm socks, a favorite candle, or a cup of tea shared with someone you love—coziness matters. Our team shared some of their favorite ways to feel cozy this season… now we’d love to hear yours!

Shared laughter is one of the most powerful forms of care. ā¤ļø

In these moments—inside jokes, favorite stories retold (again and again), a song that sparks a smile—we’re reminded that quality care is about so much more than tasks and schedules. It’s about connection, dignity, and making space for joy.

Our care partners don’t just show up to help; they show up to be present. And sometimes the best medicine sounds a lot like laughter echoing through the room.

Because growing older should still include fun, memories worth keeping, and people who truly enjoy the time spent together. 😊

Winter safety is essential for older adults because the season brings more than just cold—it brings risk. From icy steps to power outages, even everyday routines can become hazardous. Prioritizing safety during winter means protecting independence, well-being, and peace of mind. It's not just about avoiding accidents—it's about ensuring each day remains safe, warm, and full of dignity.

Some days, the best coworker has four paws. 🐾

We had a very special visitor stop by the office—and yes, he proudly accepted the role of Chief Snack Officer.

Moments like these remind us that care, comfort, and connection come in many forms… sometimes with whiskers and a whole lot of personality. šŸ’œ

Sometimes the signs are subtle—missed medications, a quieter house, a stumble that didn’t need to happen. When loneliness grows or routines feel harder to manage, it may be time to explore extra support. Our care partners are here to walk alongside your loved ones with compassion, helping them remain safe, independent, and comfortable at home. If something feels different, trust your instincts—it’s okay to ask questions. We’re always here to talk it through.

Some of the sweetest moments happen right in the kitchen. šŸŒšŸ„œ A shared snack, a familiar routine, a little laughter — these small comforts can make a day feel lighter and more connected.

We support older adults with things like:
• Meal Planning & Preparation
• Gentle reminders
• Encouragement and conversation
• Social engagement

Because care is about being together — not just tasks. šŸ’›

Looking for dementia education that’s practical, respectful, and grounded in real life? šŸ’œ

We highly recommend Speaking Dementia—a wonderful resource offering practical education centered on dignity, everyday care, and meaningful support. It’s a favorite of ours for both families and care professionals navigating the dementia journey.

Knowledge shared with compassion always goes further.

One of the early signs of dementia is difficulty processing space and visual information, not poor eyesight. At this stage many families feel confused and dismiss what they’re seeing.

People may get lost in familiar places or misjudge steps or distances. Others may struggle with depth perception or find parking their car difficult
Some will have trouble reading clocks or following visual layouts.
The eyes are often working perfectly well.

What’s changing is the brain’s ability to interpret what the eyes are seeing. People are the told
ā€œYou just need new glasses.ā€
ā€œYou’re getting clumsy.ā€
ā€œIt’s just ageing.ā€

Families may notice more bumps and near-falls. Also hesitation at doorways or stairs and anxiety in busy or unfamiliar environments. There will also be a sudden reluctance to go out.

These changes can feel subtle but they’re deeply unsettling for the person experiencing them.

Imagine seeing the world clearly, but no longer trusting what it means. Spatial and visual processing problems are neurological and are often early signs of dementia.
They are also one reason confidence, independence and mobility can decline long before memory loss becomes obvious.
Be kind
