Hello there, just passing by to introduce myself.
My name is Glory Ann Acevedo, I was born and raised in the island of Puerto Rico, and I work as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. After finishing my undergrad studies at the University of PR in Social Studies with a minor in psychology, I decided to move to Miami Fl to pursue my Masters degree and 1 year of doctoral school for clinical Psychology. I initiated my career experience in a children hospital psychiatric unit, which developed an innate compassion to work with children and deeply understanding the hardships they were going through while growing up. For several years I worked in Community Mental Health settings and Neuropsychologist offices, helping children with depression, anxiety, ADHD, behavioral issues, and family conflicts. While my interest in helping children with Attention Deficit kept growing, I also knew I wanted to find alternative ways to improve their outcome. Therefore, I have completed an ADHD professional and Health Coach certifications with the intention of developing alternative and integrative practices. Some facts about myself are (and the reason why I love to add these in my work); I LOVE nature and I try to be outdoors every day even if is for a short period of time. I love to spend time with my family, watch my children grow and to celebrate their small and big accomplishments, I like to stay involved in the community, I am very active (yoga is my favorite), and love to cook (when I have time ;)). To conclude, I must say that a vast array of personal experiences, from births to significant losses, have influenced in my Career and helped to be the professional I am today.

Parenting is full of ambiguities. We love our kids but we’re also human and have our own needs and emotional experiences separate from our children—it’s ok to want space, feel annoyed, or be exhausted.
And it’s also ok to feel like you want to simultaneously celebrate and grieve as your child moves through the stages of childhood.
Give yourself grace and care.

How to know we have reached a higher level of self esteem?

-you realized you stopped seeking external validation and Your intuition becomes your main guidance.
- you not only learn to accept your flaws, but to love them as well.
- Enjoy time in solitude
- You have developed more self awareness and discover things about yourself you didn’t know before
- You also recognize your good qualities and how can these be useful to develop self resilience and to help others around you
- You become more empathetic.
- You develop an ‘uhu’ moment when you stop wishing for what others have and acknowledge with love what you have

If I’m not there yet… what can I do?
- be in touch with your feelings. Learn about yourself, your feelings, and experiences.
- Avoid numbing your feelings through external resources (substances, emotional eating, always wanting to be surrounded by others, social media addiction,)
- Learn compassion for self and others. Never Insult yourself. This will lead to self doubt and fears of criticism from others.
- Learn that mistakes are totally OK as long as you recognize them and learn from them. We are NOT perfect.
- Be in contact with nature. Feeling we are one with nature and that we belong to this beautiful planet is important in recognizing your purpose in life.
- Research for activities that may get your attention (even if your don’t practice them) Be curious and develop positive habits

For these past few days I was fortunate to experience nature at its finest. Nature is everywhere, and with the rush of life, we forget sometimes how important it is the mind/body connection with nature, and all it’s benefits. 15 minutes of any outdoor activity is all you need for:

-developing stronger minds
-focus on the little things (gratitude), of what’s around us and how fortunate we are of being surrounded by it.
- Sitting down in nature will help us improve our awareness in personal life experiences

- Resetting “our brains” and recharge our mental/emotional energies.
- For those struggling with mental health, connecting with nature will release endorphins (the happy hormone), reducing fear and anxiety, and bringing more pleasant feelings.
What’s your favorite outdoor activity ??
