10 weeks post-partum and stomach is on flat flat.

If you are several weeks, months, or even years post-partum and you wonder, “why do I still look pregnant?”, it might be time to see a pelvic floor physical therapist.

If that stubborn belly pooch won’t go away with diet & exercise, it could be a result of:
▫️a pelvic floor issue
▫️poor intra-abdominal pressure management
▫️deep core weakness
▫️c-section adhesions

All of these issues can be addressed with pelvic floor physical therapy!

The differences between an OB assessment and a Pelvic Floor PT assessment post-partum👆🏼

Pelvic floor PT is standard of care in many countries but not in the US. Mamas should not be forgotten after they birth their baby.

Leaking when sneezing, coughing, laughing, jumping, and exercising is common, but not normal. Pain with s*x is also common, but not normal.

Pelvic pain, prolapse, and scars from tearing or episiotomies and c-sections should also be addressed.

Pelvic Floor PT can help! DM us if you have any questions 🤍

Just because you had a c-section doesn’t mean your pelvic floor/vagina wasn’t affected.

Studies show that prevalence of prolapse and incontinence are greater in women who had a vaginal delivery.

However it doesn’t mean that women who had a c-section are free from pelvic floor dysfunction.

Your body and pelvic floor experienced prolonged stress throughout the length of your pregnancy. This can contribute to pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and cause:

▪️weakness
▪️pelvic & low back pain
▪️pain with s*x
▪️bowel dysfunction
▪️bladder dysfunction

Since a c-section is a major abdominal surgery, it is also important to evaluate the incision, scar tissue restriction, muscle activation, and diastasis recti.

We highly recommend getting evaluated by a pelvic floor PT to make sure everything is functioning optimally regardless of the type of birth you had.

Women’s health/pelvic floor physical therapists like us specialize in treating the “lady parts”.
⁣⁣
Through our experience, we found that many women suffer alone with their issues 😔. We find this to be the case either because they are too embarrassed to seek help, think their condition is normal, or because they don’t know where to find help. ⁣

Also, most doctors don’t know that we exist, let alone the type of work that we do. Therefore, most women are not referred to physical therapists specializing in this field so patients are unable to get the help that they need. ⁣

Many of our patients have been to numerous doctors before finding us. They have been prescribed medications, received multiple injections, or underwent surgery to try to find a solution without any resolution. Thankfully, there has been more awareness on women’s health physical therapy over the recent years, but not enough!⁣⁣

👩🏻‍⚕️Some conditions we treat are:⁣⁣
▪️urinary urgency, frequency,
and/or incontinence⁣
▪️bowel dysfunction⁣
▪️painful s*x (dyspareunia)⁣
▪️painful bladder (interstitial cystitis)⁣
▪️tailbone pain (coccydynia)⁣
▪️pelvic pain⁣
▪️pelvic organ prolapse
▪️pregnant women⁣
▪️post-partum women⁣⁣⁣

Our mission is to bring awareness and educate women.

Here are some twin facts about us and answers to some common questions:⁣⁣
⁣⁣
⏰ We were born one minute apart. ⁣⁣

👯‍♀️ We are fraternal twins. ⁣⁣

🩸 We have different blood types.

⚖️ We are mirror image twins, meaning we have reverse features.⁣
⁣⁣
👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 We are the only twins in the family. ⁣⁣

🎂 We hated being twins when we were younger because we hated sharing birthday cakes, presents, and everything else. ⁣⁣

📓 We switched classes many times and got caught once in college.⁣⁣

🔮No, we cannot read each other’s minds or feel each other’s pain. ⁣⁣

👫 No, we have never played tricks on our past boyfriends or boys in general.⁣
⁣⁣
🧠 We feel like our brains work the same way. Ex: We would get the same exact questions wrong on a test and get very similar grades. We also have the same strengths and weaknesses.

With a vaginal birth, tearing naturally is generally better than an episiotomy ✂️.

Episiotomies are no longer routine and the number of episiotomies have declined over the years. This is great because routine episiotomies are proven to increase the risk of severe tears and chronic pelvic floor issues.

Episiotomies are a better choice for certain situations such as when you are at high risk for damaging the urethra, emergency situations where the baby needs to be delivered asap, etc.

If you are worried about having an episiotomy, ask your provider for their episiotomy rate and voice any concerns. Don’t be afraid to switch providers if your provider is not open to avoiding an episiotomy if possible.
