Ever wonder why some women choose home birth?

Ask the ones who’ve had both.

Not the ones who’ve only ever known one way.
The ones who’ve experienced hospital birth… and then chose something different the next time.

Because what they’ll tell you is:

– The difference in how they were spoken to
– The difference in how their body was trusted
– The difference in pace, pressure, and decision-making
– The difference between being managed and being supported

Two completely different environments.
Two completely different experiences.

And once you’ve felt both, it tells you everything you need to know.

Constantly neglecting yourself doesn’t hurt just you.

That’s what has been heavy on my heart and has been my biggest motivation to take better care of myself.

I’ve known WHAT to do just had to get my priorities straight. I’ve had more energy to play with my kids, get outdoors more, they are loving that I’m trying new recipes (even though they don’t love all of them 😂) and I’m absolutely less irritable and exhausted.

It’s amazing what exercise and some protein will do.

North Carolina families deserve a maternity care system that truly supports safe, evidence-based options for birth. Expanding access to licensed midwifery isn’t just about policy, it’s about strengthening care for every parent and baby in our state.

If you believe in safer, more supported birth options… now is the time to learn, speak up, and share.
Awareness matters.
Accurate information matters.
Your voice helps this conversation reach the people who need to hear it.

Let’s continue pushing for a maternity care system in NC that honors choice, respects evidence, and prioritizes the wellbeing of families. The more we talk about it, the harder it is to overlook.

A state task force is taking a fresh look at licensure for certified midwives that could more closely align North Carolina with other states.

“Dr. Stephen Porges, PhD, is famed by his ground-breaking research into this ventral branch and developed what is now known as the Polyvagal Theory. In a nutshell, this branch senses if the person is safe in their environment. If they are not, if they are feeling unsafe or threatened, this branch of our nervous system acts to protect us. This protection process can be expressed by a heightened state of agitation, both physically (i.e., increased inflammation, decreased blood flow to internal organs, etc…) and emotionally (anxiety or rage). It can also be expressed as causing the person to freeze or shut down if the stimulation is too much.
