Yvonne Magee CESMT

Yvonne Magee CESMT Certified Equine Massage Therapist Certified Magnawave practitioner I have been around horses almost all my life .

I am certified equine massage therapist with THERASAGE EMC and I would love to make your horses perform better . I offer Pre-and post-Event massage ,
Discipline-specific massage
Tendon and ligament massage and trigger points
Deep tissue massage that helps to release trigger points in the muscle which releases pain for better performance. Trigger points create oxygen starvation in the tissue so your horses might feel pain in certain areas .
-muscle stiffness, or have an edema . Trigger point massages are the most effective modality by massage therapist for relief of pain . I massage on tendons and ligaments .For example if your horse has a bowed tendon , torn ligament,is cold backed ,had nerve blocking , or just an old injury . The benefits of equine massage is
-alleviates pain,tensions and discomfort
-reduces spasm and cramping
-breaks down scar tissue
-releases endorphins (the body’s own pain killer)
-reduces inflammation and swelling
Increases blood flow and oxygen circulation
-increases lymphatic flow

I also offer myofascial release massage

Myofascial Release is a comprehensive, whole body, hands-on approach that restores the necessary slack in the connective tissue web to help eliminate lameness and enhance a horse's performance. Myofascial release uses sustained hands-on pressure into a fascial restriction for several minutes in one area. I WOULD LOVE TO DISCUSS THE CONCERNS YOU HAVE WITH YOUR HORSE AND OFFER MY SERVICES TO HELP IMPROVE YOUR EQUINE PERFORMANCE.

Well said , that’s why I love working with horses .

There’s never any one way to do something or to get to the same result.

One way may be easier than another way, take less steps, take more or less time. It doesn’t mean that any one way is right and another is wrong.

If there’s something I’ve learned it is that the body is intricate, strong, delicate, resilient and so much more. Every body is different and how and when and what it chooses or feels safe to respond to, is up to the body.

We have the ability to help facilitate body healing with the items and tools God the ultimate Healer has given us, and we also have the ability to damage it too.

Life with horses doesn’t have to be a frantic panic and seeking.

Although, sometimes it can feel and seem that way in desperate times.

But, it doesn't have to be.

Sometimes seeking looks like sitting.
Healing feels quiet.
Rest looks like turning it all off for the time needed.

Wrapping up the year always has as nostalgic feeling for me as well as one of anticipation and excitement for the next year.

I love learning new things as well as new things about the old things. Stuff that challenges what I know, think I know or believe. So, I’ve been taking the time to do just that.

I can’t wait to share more details with you 🤎

Tensor Fasciae Latae (TFL) Tension in Horses – Symptoms & How Massage Helps

The Tensor Fasciae Latae (TFL) is a small but powerful muscle located on the front/side of the horse’s hip, connecting into the fascia and the iliotibial band. When it becomes tight or overworked, it can affect the entire hind end.
You may notice one or more of the following:

1. Shortened or “stabby” stride behind
•Especially noticeable at the trot.
•Horse looks like it can’t fully reach forward with the hind leg.

2. Hip-hiking or uneven hip movement
•One side lifts higher.
•The hip may swing outward to avoid stretching the TFL.

3. Difficulty picking up or maintaining a lead
•Trouble with canter leads.
•Swapping behind or cross-firing.

4. Sensitivity when brushing or touching the hip area
•Flinching, tail swishing, stepping away.

5. Stiffness when backing up
•Backing engages the TFL, so horses with tension may resist or take short steps.

6. Tightness along the fascia toward the stifle
•You may feel tight, ropy tissue from the hip toward the hind limb.

Important Notice from Yvonne Magee CESMT

Due to the current Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1) outbreak, I will be temporarily pausing all PEMF therapy and equine massage appointments. The health and safety of your horses—and every horse I work with—will always come first.

Because I travel between barns, I want to make absolutely sure that I am not putting any horse at risk. Even with strict sanitizing and biosecurity measures, the safest decision right now is to wait until the outbreak has fully passed before continuing hands-on services.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and truly appreciate your understanding. I know how important these sessions are for your horses’ well-being, and I look forward to getting back to work as soon as it is completely safe.

Thank you for your patience, support, and for prioritizing your horses’ health alongside me.

Is your horse holding tension or stress?

Vagus nerve balancing can help them unwind, relax, and feel more comfortable in their body. Each session is tailored to your horse’s unique needs with a calm, compassionate approach.

🐴 Vagus Nerve Activation

As part of my equine bodywork and PEMF sessions, I use gentle techniques that help stimulate the vagus nerve — a key part of your horse’s nervous system responsible for relaxation, digestion, and recovery.

By applying light touch around the poll, ears, and throatlatch, the body is encouraged to shift from a “fight or flight” state into “rest and digest.” This promotes deep relaxation and supports natural healing from the inside out.

Benefits may include:
•Calmer, more focused behavior
•Improved digestion and gut health
•Enhanced recovery and circulation
•Greater overall comfort and balance

This gentle, non-invasive approach helps your horse release tension, recover faster, and feel more at ease — physically and emotionally.

Benefits of cupping therapy for horses

Improved circulation:
Increases blood and lymph flow to tense or sore muscles, aiding in recovery and detoxification.
Fascial release: Helps to loosen adhesions and reduce myofascial tension, which can improve mobility and range of motion.
Pain relief:
Lifts and decompress the tissue, which can provide a different type of relief from compression therapies and help with conditions like trigger points.
Scar tissue remodeling:
Assists in breaking down and remodeling scar tissue, leading to improved tissue health.
Enhanced recovery:
Supports overall wellness and helps horses recover more quickly after strenuous activity.
