School Nutrition Association of Wisconsin (SNA-WI)

School Nutrition Association of Wisconsin (SNA-WI) SNA is a national, nonprofit professional organization that advocates quality nutrition to children through education and support for our members.

The School Nutrition Association (SNA) is a national, nonprofit professional organization representing more than 51,000 members who provide high-quality, low-cost meals to students across the country. The Wisconsin Chapter of SNA (SNA-WI) has over 1,150 members, over half of which are certified, and another 30 have achieved their SNS Credential (School Nutrition Specialist). In conjunction with the national office and valuable industry support, SNA-WI has been working to advance the availability, quality and acceptance of school nutrition programs as an integral part of education. The organization is in constant contact with Congressmen, Senators and Representatives to influence important nutrition legislation. Meaningful achievement awards have been created at the state and national level to recognize professionalism in the industry, and to help members offset expenses to attend state-wide and national events. SNA-WI strives to be the recognized school food service resource for child nutrition information in the State of Wisconsin by providing opportunities for professional growth and development for school food service personnel. This is accomplished by encouraging members to participate in the many education events offered by SNA-WI, regional and local Chapter events, affiliated organizations such as the Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, Dairy Council, Hunger Task Force and many others.

Schools around WI celebrated the first WI Local Food Day this month! This year's featured food was the WI state fruit - the cranberry!

Here’s how some school districts celebrated with locally grown goodness:

🍏 Neenah School District – Served up a delicious apple cranberry crisp made with WI-grown apples and cranberries.
🧃Medford Area School District – Offered a cranberry-themed feast featuring cranberry muffins, craisins, cranberry juice, and cranberry sauce.
🥩 Sturgeon Bay School District – Paired fresh, local cranberries with locally raised slow-cooked beef in gravy for a hearty and tasty meal!
🦃 Black River Falls & Melrose-Mindoro School Districts – Had a festive Thanksgiving feast sampling five different varieties of locally grown cranberries.
😋St. John’s Lutheran School – Waterloo - Will celebrate with a Cranberry Bog Count and taste test!
🥦Kenosha Unified School District – Served up Broccoli Cranberry Salad and a yogurt parfait with local cranberries!
🥞 Holmen School District – Featured homemade pancakes with local flour, sausage, and maple syrup for a true taste of Wisconsin.

From the tangy sweetness of cranberries to the hardworking local farmers who make it all possible, there’s so much to celebrate! 🌱Let’s continue to support local, eat local, and learn local—while savoring the flavors of WI’s harvest! 🍂
