Good luck to the Upper Merion Area HS Vikings Football Team and to all of the UMAHS athletes competing this fall!

The Upper Merion football team believes it left some wins on the table last season. Second-half collapses against Conwell-Egan, Phoenixville and Boyertown last year inspired a new motto for 2022: Finish the job. Fine motor skills require coordination from the brain to the smaller muscles in the body, such as in the hand, fingers, etc. Everyday activities such as turning doorknobs, tying shoelaces, brushing teeth, and dialing numbers on a phone all require fine motor skills. These activities can be difficult to regain especially after a disease or infection impacts the brain’s signaling to carry out these actions.

In this specific case, this patient had a R sided stroke causing L sided weakness, pain, and fine motor skill impairment. Here, this patient is working on a few exercises to help improve her fine motor skills in her hands.

We like all of our patients at KOPPT to warm up before carrying out their exercises whether this be through heating the body part or starting treatment with a few minutes on the bike/treadmill. There are several physiological benefits of warming up before physical therapy like increasing blood flow and improving tissue flexibility. Warming up can also help the specific muscle structure withstand contracture and stretching without injury.
