This week at King, our members in Ainsworth Hall had a Birthday PAW-ty for Sadie, who turned 10! Members had their picture taken with the birthday girl and watched her eat her cake. Sadie is a frequent guest and very popular with our members, providing pet therapy. 😀🐶

💕💕We are soooo feeling the love for our veterans! Yesterday, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary James Bond and Chris Cornelius from the Wisconsin Board of Veterans Affairs (BOVA) hand-delivered gift bags of Veteran Valentine's cards to all members living at Ainsworth Hall and Moses Hall.

Thousands of Valentine's Day cards were sent to WDVA over the last month. They were mailed in by elementary school students, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, churches, veterans' groups, local organizations, and many caring individuals from across Wisconsin and the nation.

We are very grateful to everyone who sent some heartfelt appreciation to our Veterans Home in King for Valentine's Day! This special day is always a highlight for our members and skilled care staff! 💕💕

⚠️🚶‍♂️Winter Tunnel Walking at King – Please Follow These Safety Guidelines ⚠️🚶‍♂️

For the safety of residents, staff, and visitors, we ask that the public follow these rules when using the Tunnels at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King:

• ENTER TUNNELS ONLY THROUGH THE MARDEN CENTER , MOSES HALL, OR AINSWORTH HALL. Tunnels are open for public walking only during posted hours (8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.).

• REVIEW AND FOLLOW ALL RULES POSTED AT KIOSKS.

• WALKING ONLY – NO RUNNING. Do not open or pass through closed doors; closed doors are off-limits for safety reasons.

• NO PETS ALLOWED UNLESS APPROVED. Housekeeping staff have found pet waste in the tunnels, which creates infection control concerns.

• YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY TO ALL VEHICLES – LOOK OUT FOR TUGGERS. “Tuggers” (train-like conveyances) are used to transport residents and supplies and must remain on schedule. Follow posted tugger traffic patterns, marked by lime-green lines and signage, and do not be alarmed by honks or beeps.

We are pleased that so many people are enjoying exercise indoors during the winter and want to continue offering the tunnels as a shared community space. The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King is a working campus where our member’s health, safety and comfort are the top priority.

PLEASE NOTE: The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King reserves the right to discontinue public tunnel access if safety or hygiene concerns arise. We hope to continue this winter tradition and appreciate everyone’s cooperation in following these guidelines. Thank you!
