🌟 Meet Mary Dulske! 🌟

Mary serves as the Volunteer and Donations Coordinator at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, a role she has held since August 2025.

Mary coordinates more than 120 dedicated volunteers who support members through a wide range of activities—from community outings like bus trips, fishing excursions, shopping, and dining out, to accompanying members to on-campus medical appointments, providing one-on-one pet visits, and sharing talents like sewing, gardening, musical accompaniment, and creative arts support. 🤝💙

Mary says it’s only with the help of volunteers that members can enjoy the “multitude of engaging and fun activities planned by our amazing Activities staff.” She adds that the most rewarding part of her job is “being a witness to the deep meaningful friendships that develop and grow from matching a wonderful volunteer with a deserving Veteran member!”

When asked what advice she would give to new volunteers, Mary shared: “Volunteering should be flexible and fun, not structured like a job! I try to encourage volunteers to bring their interests and passions with them to share with our members. Amazing things happen when we show up in genuine ways and give of ourselves to others.”

During National Laundry and Linen Week (April 20 to April 24, 2026), we proudly recognize the dedicated Laundry staff at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King who work behind the scenes to ensure our members always have clean clothes and fresh linens. Their attention to detail, consistency, and care make a meaningful difference in the comfort, dignity, and daily lives of those we serve. 👏

As Commandant Joni Steingraber shared, “we greatly appreciate the work that they do for members and their families. We are a team and it takes all of us to make this camp work. Every person...every department.”

Volunteer Reception at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King

🌟 Celebrating the “Compassion, Skills and Companionship” of Our Volunteers 🌟

In honor of National Volunteer Week (April 19–25), the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King celebrated its incredible volunteers with an afternoon reception. 💙

WDVA Secretary James Bond thanked volunteers for sharing their compassion, skills, and companionship: “From being a listening ear, providing a ride for a vet to make a medical appointment, to serving food at an event…you have each touched our members’ lives.”

In 2025, more than 125 volunteers gave over 11,000 hours—and in just the first three months of 2026, they’ve already contributed more than 2,600 hours, a record-setting pace. 📈

Volunteers were also recognized for their service, including individuals who have contributed thousands of hours over the years (including Gary Mader - a member of the King Home who also volunteers), and even some of our newest volunteers. 👏

Volunteer Coordinator Mary Dulske thanked the team for working alongside Activity Staff to make it possible for members to enjoy everything from woodcrafting and bowling to fishing trips and community outings. 🎣🎳

💙 Thank you to all of our volunteers for the time, care, and joy you bring to our members each day!

💙 Celebrating National Volunteer Week – April 19–25, 2026 💙

To mark National Volunteer Week, we are excited to recognize the service, compassion, and impact of the volunteers who work with members at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King.

This incredible team of volunteers assists Veterans Home staff in enabling members to enjoy a wide variety of activities and experiences—from wood crafting to bingo, and from adaptive bowling sessions to community outings. 🤝❤️

Today, we’re proud to share some photos of the more than 120 volunteers (including therapy pets) who support the Veterans Home at King. We honor them for their service and compassion; for creating lasting connections with members and their families; for supporting staff in helping ensure members maintain the highest quality of life—and especially for reminding veterans that they are not forgotten.
