At Sanders Funeral Service we are proud to run the only locally owned funeral home in Kingfisher that is operated by a family that has lived in and been deeply engrained in the community for over 55 years. We will provide the highest standard of service, commitment and compassion to the families we serve. We offer full-service funerals, cremations, and memorial packages including video tributes. Our onsite chapel allows us to accommodate families that wish to have a service outside of the church. The little historic white funeral home that was founded in 1899 by Arthur Bracken in downtown Kingfisher has been serving Kingfisher County for over a century and we are looking forward to many more. We go the extra mile to make sure your family members' Celebration of Life is a true reflection of them! Call us today receive your free preplanning guide.

As the Office Administrator at Sanders Funeral Service, Shelley is often one of the first voices families hear and one of the steady forces working behind the scenes. She plays a vital role in ensuring every detail is handled with care and professionalism, helping support both families and staff through every step of the process.

When she’s not at the funeral home, Shelley enjoys working in her vegetable garden and attending her grandchildren’s events. Family time and the simple moments at home are where she finds balance and joy.

Many people are surprised to learn that Shelley had a career as a floral designer for several years, managing a shop in California. She also brings decades of medical experience to her role as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years and a Paramedic for 20, spending much of her career in emergency medicine, including five years as a flight nurse. She still works part time at Chisholm Trail Technology Center assisting with the training of future LPN’s.

Shelley hopes families leave Sanders feeling that their loved one was cared for beyond expectations and that they were treated like part of the Sanders family. She treasures the small-town feel of this community and the way people genuinely connect with one another. This line of work has reinforced her belief in cherishing every moment, planning the trips, gathering often, and capturing memories, because life is never guaranteed.

Guided by faith and a lifelong calling to care for others, Shelley’s path as a first-generation college graduate has been shaped by determination, compassion, and a heart for service.

We’re grateful to have Shelley as part of the Sanders team and community.

After most funeral services, family and friends gather together for a time of food, stories, and connection.

It’s a space where memories are shared, tears are shed, laughter is heard, and support is felt.

While the service honors a life, the gathering reminds us of the love that continues. It’s a gentle transition, a moment to be together and to begin moving forward, surrounded by community.

Whether held at home, in a church hall, a park, or a reception room, there’s no right or wrong way to do it.

Potluck or catered, big or small, what matters most is doing what feels right for your family.

If you ever need help planning a meaningful time of remembrance and connection, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

When we experience the death of someone we love, a funeral service fills several important needs.

- Funerals help us acknowledge that someone we love has died.
- Funerals allow us to say goodbye.
- Funerals offer continuity and hope for the living.
- Funerals provide a support system for us, friends, family members and the community.
- Funerals allow us to reflect on the meaning of life and death.

If you or someone you love is facing a difficult time, we’re here to walk alongside you with care and understanding. Reach out to us whenever you need guidance or support.

Today, on St. Patrick’s Day, we reflect on the rich traditions of Irish funeral service customs rooted in community, connection, and honoring life.

One of the most well-known traditions is the Irish wake, where family and friends gather, often in the home, to sit with their loved one, share stories, and support one another. It’s a time where grief and remembrance exist side by side, and where no one is left to mourn alone.

Many of these traditions carry quiet symbolism such as windows opened to mark a soul’s journey, clocks paused to honor the moment of passing, and gatherings filled with food, conversation, and reflection.

In ancient traditions, some cultures believed in a β€œsin eater”, a person who would symbolically take on the sins of the deceased so their soul could find peace. It was also said that tears should be held back until the body was prepared, out of respect for the soul’s journey.

Traditions may look different from family to family, but the purpose remains the same. To honor, to remember, and to walk alongside one another through life’s most important moments.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day. πŸ€

It’s not always an easy conversation but it’s one of the most loving gifts you can give your family. When plans are in place, your loved ones can focus on supporting one another instead of making difficult decisions during an emotional time.

No matter where you are in the process, just talking with family, researching options, or finishing your plans. Every step brings peace of mind.
