☀️ We’re up and all geared up for the Tuesday morning residency showcase session!
Come by to booth #5318 and meet our team.

Don’t forget to star the resident poster session tomorrow to see Patrick Gummow, PharmD, present on Iron Sucrose Use at Kingman Regional Medical Center.

Purpose: Iron supplementation is indicated for iron deficient anemia. Oral repletion is often preferred as it is both safer and more cost-effective than intravenous repletion. Intravenous iron repletion is generally reserved for those with chronic kidney disease, end stage renal disease or who have failed oral therapy. The purpose of this study will be to evaluate the appropriate use of iron sucrose in hospitalized patients based off current guideline recommendations.

Opening session kicked off ASHP Midyear this morning and we couldn’t be more excited for the events to come. Be sure to join us at the residency poster session on Wednesday! First up is Corina Marrone, PharmD presenting on Describing
Prescribing Practices for Cosyntropin Testing.

Purpose: Adrenal insufficiency is a condition where the adrenal cortex does not make enough cortisol, leading to symptoms of fatigue, hypotension, and muscle weakness. Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) testing assesses adrenal gland response and should be done on patients suspected of adrenal insufficiency. The Surviving Sepsis Campaign currently does not recommend the use of ACTH testing to determine steroid utilization for patients with septic shock. The purpose of this study will be to describe the prescribing practices of cosyntropin testing in hospitalized patients.

Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

Our prescription for the day is simple: one massive dose of gratitude, zero stress, and as much pie as you can safely handle. Remember, the best medicine is a full heart (and maybe a good antacid later). Cheers to being thankful!

Happy World Pharmacists Day! 🌍💊 Today, we celebrate the incredible contributions of pharmacists around the globe who are dedicated to improving health and well-being.
Pharmacists are at the heart of healthcare, offering expert advice, managing medications, and playing a vital role in patient care. They are accessible, knowledgeable, and always ready to help us understand our health needs.
This year’s theme, “Think Health, Think Pharmacist,” on September 25, 2025, perfectly encapsulates the essential role these professionals play.
Thank you, pharmacists, for everything you do!

Congratulations Dr. Jones!

The Arizona Pharmacy Association recently honored KRMC pharmacist Alex Jones as its 2025 Distinguished Young Pharmacist Awardee. Dr. Jones is the first in his role as KRMC's dedicated clinical pharmacist in the emergency department.

This award recognizes an Arizona pharmacist who has “demonstrated significant leadership in Arizona pharmacy in the previous year."

Dr. Linda Williams, pharmacy clinical manager, nominated Dr. Jones for the award. She wrote:

"Dr. Jones fulfills his role as a teacher and mentor with dedication. He precepts not only pharmacy students and residents, but he is also involved in the education of other health professionals.

In terms of clinical excellence and contributions, Dr. Jones has focused on prioritizing patient safety and providing high-quality patient care to ensure positive outcomes. He established KRMC's Naloxone Distribution Program with the goal of helping to identify patients at high risk for opioid overdose and sending patients home with free naloxone."

Congratulations Dr. Jones, we're grateful to have you on the KRMC team!
