Linda Williams, PharmD, pharmacy clinical manager at KRMC's Disease Management Clinic, was recognized on Sunday March 1, at the annual Kingman Women Making History Awards ceremony!

She was nominated by Kristen Nelson-Rowan, RN, disease care coordinator at the Disease Management Clinic.

Here is an excerpt from the ceremony:
“Linda Williams is a pharmacist with a purpose. She saw a gap in care and developed the disease management clinic at KRMC more than 10 years ago. She has helped over 3,000 patients and shares her energy and love for those who need education and medication management. She helps recruit pharmacists to the hospital, encouraging them to further their education and to get involved in the community. She is very active in local fundraisers and charities.”

Linda has been in Kingman for 14 years, championing KRMC's mission and raising her family. Her two daughters have their own teddy bears on wall in the labor and delivery unit. “I thank KRMC for giving me the opportunity to grow personally and professionally,” said Linda.

Congratulations, Linda, on this well deserved recognition!

February is National Cancer Prevention Month—a time to focus on the importance of early detection and proactive steps to reduce your cancer risk. This year, an estimated 2.1 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer, and 626,000 will lose their lives to this disease, the second-leading cause of death in the U.S. In Arizona alone, more than 42,000 new cases are expected. The good news? Up to 40% of cancer cases in adults over 30 are linked to modifiable risk factors, like to***co use, inactivity, alcohol consumption, and excess weight. By making healthy choices, you can lower your risk of developing cancer.

Did you know that cancer patients in Mohave County have access to world class cancer care right here in Kingman? Kingman Regional Medical Center’s WL Nugent Cancer Center is one of only a few Cancer Centers in the state accredited by the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer. On Valentine's Day, members of the local Blue Ribbon Bandits 4-H club dropped off handmade Valentines to share with patients at Kingman Regional Medical Center.

The club, which has 21 members aged 8-18, does a variety of community service activities in Kingman, including creating and distributing Valentines each year to people in local care facilities.

"Sometimes, that small bit of kindness makes a hard hospital stay that much more tolerable," said Lea Shepherd, a Blue Ribbon Bandits club leader.

Representing the club from left to right are Lea Shepherd, Tjossema Shepherd, Stryker Shepherd, Blake Barnum and Lacey Barnum.

Thank you, Blue Ribbon Bandits 4-H for bringing cheer to our patients!

Cholesterol: Myth vs. Fact

MYTH: You have to completely avoid fat to lower cholesterol.
FACT: Healthy fats from foods like avocados, nuts, olive oil, and fatty fish can actually help improve your cholesterol balance by lowering LDL (“bad”) and supporting HDL (“good”).

MYTH: Cholesterol problems only come from eating meat.
FACT: What matters most is fiber and fat type. Foods like oats, beans, fruits, and vegetables contain soluble fiber that helps remove cholesterol from your body.

MYTH: One “superfood” will fix high cholesterol.
FACT: It’s about consistent, everyday choices—whole grains, nuts, fish, fruits, and veggies working together over time.

MYTH: If you feel fine, your cholesterol is fine.
FACT: High cholesterol often has no symptoms, which is why heart healthy eating matters at every age.

Small changes. Smart choices. Stronger hearts.

Congratulations to the winner of the DAISY Award, Dyan Sinclair, FNP-BC!

The DAISY Foundation created this award to recognize extraordinary nurses who make a powerful difference to the patients and families in their care. Dyan is a primary care nurse practitioner at KRMC’s Golden Valley Medical Center. She has over 25 years of experience with patient care, including emergency care, medical/surgical hospital care, and acute rehabilitation.

A colleague nominated Dyan for the DAISY, saying, “Dyan always shows great compassion and commitment to all her patients.” When Dyan had a patient who was unwell, she persisted in finding the cause of their health issues. Dyan discovered the patient was struggling with access to food, so she took it upon herself to get the patient the groceries they needed. “This is just one example of how Dyan goes above and beyond for her patients,” said her colleague.

Dyan, for her part, didn't think it was "any big deal." There's a lot of need in the community, and not always enough resources to meet that need, she said.

Dyan, thank you for the effort and care you pour into your patients. We're proud to have you on the KRMC team!
