You may have seen billboards for our pet cremation service, Cherished Companions, around Kingsport the past several weeks. In an effort to better serve the whole family, we've proudly owned and operated our own dedicated pet crematory since 2009.

For more information on our services we'd encourage you to visit our new website: www.cherishedcompanions.pet.

Last week, we honored the memory of 244 loved ones as a part of Keep Kingsport Beautiful and Hamlett-Dobson's Tree Fund Spring Remembrance Ceremony. Seven green giant arborvitaes were planted alongside Hunter Wright Stadium, where we were joined by family members and friends to read aloud and honor those who have passed.

Finding ways to remember your loved one during the holidays gives everyone permission to acknowledge the loss and provides a way to remember and honor the special relationship you shared. Some ideas include:
• Light a candle in rememberance
• Make a donation in their memory
• Set a place at the table, or place flowers there
• Share stories of the loved one around the table or during a gathering
• Volunteer somewhere in their memory
• Read a poem or story in honor of the person
• Create a memory book or box with your family
Remember, there is no right or wrong way to handle the holidays in grief. You have to decide what is right for you and do it.

EMMIE UPDATE: Emmie Lou is two! She celebrated her second birthday on Friday by spending time playing fetch with her sisters and enjoying some leftover turkey. Emmie has had a big year! She went back to “school" in September to learn some new tricks. She loves going on walks around Kingsport and showing off her new skills. On the weekends when she’s not working, she can be found at her favorite restaurant, Betty’s Stockyard Cafe. Emmie still looks forward to going into work every day and spending time with all the families she gets to meet at Hamlett-Dobson. Keep checking back for more Emmie updates!

Special thanks to Lindsay Kilgore at Lindsay Kilgore Photography
for this beautiful photo of our favorite pup.

Last Friday we honored the memory of 304 loved ones at the Lynn Garden Community Center. Elm and oak trees were planted by city employees in the area around the playground to provide shade for families for years to come. Family members and friends of those who have passed were there to acknowledge the name of each person as it was read aloud.

Join us today at noon at the Keep Kingsport Beautiful and Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes tree planting ceremony at the Lynn View Community Center Playground. This planting recognizes those who have been honored or remembered through donations to the Keep Kingsport Beautiful/Hamlett-Dobson Tree Fund in the past year. For every family Hamlett-Dobson has served, a donation has been made in memory of their loved one, and that person will be remembered by having their name read during the ceremony. The public is invited to attend.

The Tree Fund began in 1986. Since then, nearly 1,000 trees have been planted within our community, and thousands of people have been recognized through this program. Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes has sponsored the program for 35 years. Keep Kingsport Beautiful coordinates the Tree Fund program, while the City of Kingsport provides the labor and maintenance. Each spring and fall, trees are purchased and planted around Kingsport on public lands using donations from those who contributed to the Tree Fund in honor or memory of someone special.
