On December 11, 2025, Denver Shelton rang the bell at the UNC Health Lenoir Wound and Infusion Center to celebrate a powerful milestone: his wound had healed. 🔔💙
Denver began his journey at the Lenoir Wound and Infusion Center in July 2024 after a spinal cord injury from a motor vehicle collision left him paralyzed from the waist down. His healing journey was impacted by many challenges, and there were moments of discouragement. In his own words: “There were days I came in hurting, frustrated, or tired, and you never failed to lift my spirit. You encouraged me when I felt slow, you celebrated the small steps, and you never gave up on helping me heal.”
By his side at every visit was his wife, Daleona, carefully taking notes and ensuring Denver received the best care at home. Denver’s faith played a crucial role in his healing; he was known to share stories of faith and encouragement with staff while receiving care. Although he was the patient, there were many days the team felt uplifted by his presence.
Over time, Denver and Daleona became family to the Lenoir Wound and Infusion Center staff. Before ringing the bell, Denver shared one final message from the heart: “For 17 months, every single one of you treated me with skill, patience, and compassion. You didn’t just take care of a wound—you took care of me.”
The LWIC team is proud to formally congratulate Denver on his healing and wishes him continued strength and wellness ahead. 💙
