In a way, I talk about this with so many of my clients. We often have a goal, something we see that we THINK we want to change. But that is usually wrong. The changes we truly seek happen when we dive in and have a deep awareness of who we think we are, and what we think is lacking. This is a painful process, and it's deeply subconscious.

In strategizing to accomplish a goal, we attempt to avoid the pain of diving into our inner childhood wounds. We want to control the process, we want to avoid being vulnerable. We sell ourselves short and we continue acting out of a false identity that will likely never get what we think we are searching for in a cognitive strategy.

There will never be enough attention if I believe I’m unlovable.
There will never be enough money if I believe money is my safety.
Nobody will ever be enough if I believe they hold my safety.
Nothing will ever be enough if I believe that my salvation exists in some elusive, future state.

It's okay to have goals, but who do you think you are and what will you get from these goals?

In my opinion, healing takes discipline and time. It is the process of reworking our human identity, and then we show up differently and our goals change. Results take time. The process is painful. The only way out is through.

Check out the workshop starting March 7th if you are starting your journey, or want a fun process to join. Link in bio.

Can we normalize going to therapy? Life is hard.

In his book, M. Scott Peck says that he sees as much psychopathology at a cocktail party as he does in his office. People who go to therapy are not the “other” people. Life is difficult. Perhaps the people who are willing to look at themselves have “greater courage and wisdom to face their problems more directly.”

He has a lot to say about those who are not willing to look at themselves. All of this is from his book, “People of the Lie: the hope for healing Human Evil”. This book is gold.

In therapy, we find ourselves and we find freedom.

It can feel incredibly shameful and lonely to struggle with your mental health and live in a world where our external presentation is prioritized above the truth.

The goal for so many is to look a certain way. We get in trouble when we try to compare our insides to other people’s outsides.

Martha Beck talks in her book, “The Way of Integrity” about a commitment to not lying- especially to herself. People don’t always want to hear the truth. An authentic life can be isolating.

Find the places where you can express it. You deserve to live in your truth.

Some ways to do this :
• Journaling
• Support groups
• Therapy
• Conscious Community

LOTS of people struggle and LOTS of people don't talk about it. You can do you.

Looking around at your relationships can be a very clear way to understand what is happening in your subconscious mind. Our lives are designed by the programming we have running beneath the surface, programming we can’t always see so clearly. But we can see how it manifests in our lives by looking around.

Therapy creates a space where these patterns present themselves. Here is the thing though - it takes time. It’s really important to set a realistic expectation that it is not going to be a quick fix, it is a commitment to yourself, even if it feels like it’s not really doing anything. Are you worth it?
