Meet ADHD Executive Functioning Coach :Mileva

Mileva (she/they) joined the FPSK team with over 19 years of experience in educational settings; specializing in life skills, co-created coaching plans, and experiential learning. Meeting people where they are at -paired with humor and compassion - underscore every learning journey. Mileva has extensive experience with planning, the college process from deciding to moving, developing self-efficacy, and getting organized one step at a time, in a low stress environment!

Mileva was asked "If you could only tell the world about one EF resource, which would it be?"
Goblin Tools! I love this free website for breaking down a big task into smaller parts, with a time estimation option. There is also a “tone check” tab (rated in spiciness levels) for those who need help writing a professional email or interpreting another person’s message.

A calling to foster individual potential has fueled degrees in Psychology, Fine Arts (University of Washington) and human development, earning a M.Ed. in Student Development (Seattle University). Mileva additionally trained to be a certified guide for Nature & Forest Therapy; facilitating deeper connections with ourselves, others, and the environment.

Meet our ADHD Executive Functioning Coach: Will
Prior to joining the FPSK team, Will worked as a registered behavioral technician (RBT), supporting children 2-8 years old with autism. In this role he implemented strategies from behavioral therapy to help clients learn communication, advocacy, and life-skills to gain a greater sense of independence. Will brings compassion and patience to his work with kids of all ages and teens too!

Will was asked, "What is your favorite EF skill to coach right now?"
Note taking. I find it can be simplified and save clients a lot of time and energy; especially when studying for tests. I’ve made a game of it when working with kids who I know like to compete!

Examples of 504 accommodations for ADHD include extra time for tests and assignments, breaking down long assignments, alternative testing methods (e.g., verbal reports), and flexible seating options to reduce distractions. These accommodations help students by providing support for attention and executive functioning challenges related to their ADHD.

During this calming experience, we will practice simple techniques to help you co-regulate with nature.

Studies have shown that time in nature is an antidote for stress: It can lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels, lessen anxiety, and reduce nervous system arousal. It is a process of relaxation. This practice can also enhance immune system function, increase self-esteem, and improve your overall mood.

This day is an opportunity to recognize the benefits of a well-made bed, such as reduced tossing and turning, improved sleep, and a sense of accomplishment.

But it takes a particular skill to do tasks that are important but, frankly not that interesting. Task Initiation can be learned, and it is THE most common skill that our team's Executive Function Coaches work on with clients.

Today is National Grief Awareness day. The day is an opportunity to acknowledge the complex emotions associated with loss and to promote understanding and healing.

The three C's of grief are a helpful framework for navigating loss. These components, while not a linear process, offer guidance on how to engage with grief, seek support, and express needs during challenging times.

Choose:
You retain the power to make choices that support their well-being. This includes deciding how to spend time, what activities to participate in, and with whom to connect. You have agency, even when feeling overwhelmed.

Connect:.
Grief can be isolating, but connecting with others who understand can provide comfort and support. This involves reaching out to friends, family, or support groups, and allowing yourself to be vulnerable and share your experiences. Additionally, working with a therapist can help you process your grief, without concern for shame or burdening loved ones.

Communicate:Open and honest communication about your feelings, needs, and boundaries is crucial. This allows others to understand how to best support you, and it also helps you process your emotions.

Please contact us at 425-576-1817, if working with one of our Therapists is right for you or a loved one.

Study space:
* Is there a clean, comfortable, and inviting space for you to do homework? Free of visual and noise distractions?
* Do you have what you need to make it YOUR study space (blankets, water, snacks, a way to play music, timer to help with Pomodoro method, fidgets)?

This is just a brief example of how we can help dial in your kid, so they are set up for success BEFORE the school year gets underway. Work with an EF coach for a one-off session (focusing on Planning & Prioritization skills), or let this be a start of a better and individually supported year!
