Playle-Rimer-Millard Family Funeral Chapel

Playle-Rimer-Millard Family Funeral Chapel Our number one priority is serving you. We are so grateful to serve such an amazing community! In 1959 a new funeral home was built.

The Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home is the oldest family owned funeral business in Adair County. The Davis Funeral Home had its beginning in 1912 and the Hudson-Rimer Park View Chapel began in Adair County in 1972. Vern and Mary Playle purchased one-half interest in the Davis Funeral Home in 1975 and the remaining one-half interest in 1981, changing the name to Davis-Playle Funeral Home. In December, 2000 they purchased the Hudson-Rimer Park View Chapel in Kirksville. The Davis-Playle Funeral Home in downtown Kirksville was sold and the funeral business was moved out to the Park View Chapel, changing the name of the funeral business to Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. The Dooley Funeral Home began in 1950 by Jack & Mauretta Dooley and Francis (Buck) White. In 1979 Mauretta married Ed West, a Licensed Funeral Director, and they continued to operate the funeral home until his death in 2008. Mauretta West continues to operate the funeral business along with Martha Ann Gehrke, a Licensed Funeral Director, who has been working for the Dooley Funeral Home since April, 1997. Vern and Mary, along with their son, Kevin, built a new funeral home in Unionville, the Playle & Jones Family Funeral Home, and it had its beginning in December, 1997. Kevin Collins, a Licensed Funeral Director, joined the funeral home in January, 2003 and Anna Watt, a Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer joined the business August, 2005. The Playle & Jones Family Funeral Home is the only funeral home in Putnam County and is dedicated to serving the people with dignity and sensitivity. Vern and Mary's son, Kevin, became a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in 1992 and joined the funeral business at that time. This is now a second generation owned funeral business. We believe our duty to the families we serve goes far beyond caring for the deceased with dignity and sensitivity. We are always available to answer questions, or supply any information our families need day or night. Our biggest concern is helping people look to the future with hope and we're proud of the many long term relationships we've formed with our families over the years. Our funeral homes are dedicated to excellent service to the people we serve.

To our families and community,

We want to address concerns regarding the recent spring clean-up at Park View Memorial Gardens and Maple Hills Cemetery.

First, we sincerely apologize. We understand that the removal of flowers, especially those placed in vases, was upsetting and unexpected. There was also confusion regarding what qualifies as “worn or tattered” items. While our team removed items believed to meet that standard, we recognize we need to be much clearer in defining and communicating what that means moving forward.

While our intent is to properly maintain the grounds for all families, it’s clear our communication fell short. We recognize that not everyone uses social media, and a single Facebook post was not enough.

One of our ongoing challenges is that we do not have updated contact information for many families, which limits our ability to communicate directly about policies, clean-up dates, and future updates. This is something we are committed to improving.

We invite all community members to join us for a public meeting:
Wednesday, April 29, 2026
5:30 PM
Playle-Rimer-Millard Family Funeral Chapel

This meeting is an opportunity to share information, gather input, and hear suggestions as we work to improve communication, clarify policies, and better serve our community moving forward.

We understand not everyone will see this message, so we kindly ask that you share it. We will also be publishing this notice in the local newspaper to help reach more families.

We value the trust you place in us and remain committed to caring for your loved ones and these spaces with respect.

Sincerely,
Nick McKague
Owner & Funeral Director

Even though the weather may not quite feel like spring today… spring cleanup season is almost here! 🌸💐

This is just a friendly reminder to please stop by and pick up any decorations you’d like to keep on or before Sunday, March 15. During cleanup, items will be removed and vases will be turned down. We appreciate everyone helping us keep Parkview Memorial Gardens & Maple Hills Cemetery beautiful for the families who visit. ☀️🌹
