A LOOK AHEAD AT TURKEY DAY WEEK AT KHS!
TLDR: Check out the images.
We receive so many questions about Turkey Day Week. Here is a summary of the always fun events at KHS.
**MONDAY**
𝐓𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐲 𝐃𝐚𝐲: the Kirkwood Community wears black and orange, Webster’s Colors.
𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: Immediately after school on Monday, November 23, all 4 classes do hallway decorating. Each class decorates a different hallway. The hallways can best be described as a block-long parade float. They have themes (frequently, but not always a movie, tv show, book), often have live music, sometimes have costumes, occasionally even have candy or treats!
Hallway Decorating is a HUGE night for students at KHS and all students are welcome to participate! This is a student-led, student-driven tradition. If your student is working on the hallway, there is a chance, you as a parent, may be called upon that evening to bring a forgotten supply or run an errand, but hallway decorating is a KHS STUDENT activity. Students in attendance are expected by staff and administration to work and standard school rules apply. Misbehaving students will be asked to leave.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐏𝐎 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 $𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠. If you would like to contribute additional snacks, you may drop them off in the Welcome Center on Monday with instructions on which grade they should go to.
Freshmen through juniors must be cleaned up and out of the building by 9pm. The seniors, on their final ride, are allowed to stay until midnight to complete their build and cleanup.
** A couple seasoned parent tips on hallway decorating**
1) there is a very good chance your student is going to get messy and
2) do not loan things of value to hallway decorations. There are literally thousands of people going through the halls and your items will likely not make it home to you in the condition you lent them.
**TUESDAY**
𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐃𝐚𝐲: the Kirkwood community wears red and white.
𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤-𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡: From 7-7:40 AM, families/siblings/community members are invited to come into KHS for the to see the fruits of the kids' labor. The hallways are SO IMPRESSIVE! This is a PACKED event - some kids meet their friends to walk through together, some kids come alone, some kids walk with families...so whatever your kid decides is perfect. All-non KHS people are expected to be out of the building before school starts at 7:40.
Don't show up at 7:35 and think you're going to get to see it all.
As you can imagine, parking is challenging when we add in a few hundred extra parent cars in addition to 2000 students and staff. DO NOT PARK IN A NUMBERED SPOT--they are reserved for staff.
Please be respectful of our school neighbors and remind your student to allow plenty of extra time that morning.
𝐏𝐞𝐩 𝐑𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲: There is an all-school pep rally from 1:40-2:49 in Holley Assembly Hall. This pep rally is for students and staff only.
The pep rally will be live-streamed free on MSHSAA.TV
School releases at 2:49 per usual and normal release procedures apply.
IF YOUR STUDENT HELPED BUILD THE HALLWAY ON MONDAY NIGHT, YOUR STUDENT IS EXPECTED TO BREAK DOWN THE HALLWAY FROM 3-4 ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON!
**WEDNESDAY**
There is no school for students.
𝐊𝐒𝐃𝐅 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢 𝐁𝐨𝐰𝐥: From 4:30-7 Kirkwood School District Foundation hosts a chili bowl in the KHS Cafeteria & Commons.
If you have a ticket, you need to show up during the half-hour time slot for which you bought tickets.
The Pioneer Pride School store is open during Chili Bowl. It’s a great time to get last minute spiritwear for the game or holiday gifts.
Proceeds from the Pioneer Pride School Store benefit KHS PPO to serve students, honor staff and unite parents.
𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐏𝐞𝐩 𝐑𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲: From 7-8 pm, regardless of whether you attended the Chili Bowl, everyone is invited to attend the annual Turkey Day Pep Rally in the Holley Assembly Hall (big gym) The band plays, the football team is introduced, the cheerleaders & Pommies perform (as do their alumni!). It's just an awesome celebration of all things Kirkwood! Please remember to sit in the visitors section and keep the student sections for students.
