Pica is the repeated eating of non-food items that have no nutritional value. This may include paper, dirt, hair, chalk, soap, paint chips, or small objects. Pica can occur in children and adults and affects up to 28% of children with autism.

It can pose serious health and safety risks, including choking, poisoning, dental injury, and intestinal blockages. If you suspect pica, speak with a healthcare provider to rule out medical causes (such as nutritional deficiencies) and discuss appropriate supports.

If you can help and want to drop off items with me, I will take them to the library!

Some of our baby dolls are a little chilly this month without clothes. Could we ask for some help?
We have a 17 “ doll, 2 15” dolls, and a 12” doll. Doll clothes or preemie baby clothes would fit! Shoes, hats, bottles, or other fun baby doll items are also very welcome!

Hyperlexia is estimated to occur in a significant minority of autistic children (often cited in the 5–10% range), though it may be underidentified.

Because hyperlexia is not a stand alone DSM-recognized diagnosis, it can be difficult to track. Early reading skills are often labeled as “gifted,” especially before comprehension differences become more apparent.
