💫Seeing an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) can make a big difference in your breastfeeding experience. You don’t have to wait for problems to arise — they can help at any stage. Here’s when it’s especially helpful to reach out:
🤰🏽Before Birth (Prenatal)
-You want to prepare for breastfeeding and learn what to expect.
-You have medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, PCOS, breast surgery, flat or inverted ni***es) that might affect milk production.
-You want to make a feeding plan if you’re expecting multiples or have a history of low milk supply.
👶Right After Birth (Early Postpartum)
-The baby is having trouble latching or staying latched.
-You experience painful ni***es or breast discomfort during feeds.
-You’re unsure if the baby is getting enough milk (e.g., not enough wet diapers, poor weight gain).
-The baby is sleepy or fussy at the breast, or feedings take a very long time.
-You need help with positioning or learning different holds.
💗Anytime During Breastfeeding
-You suspect low milk supply or oversupply.
-You’re dealing with mastitis, clogged ducts, or engorgement.
-The baby refuses the breast or prefers one side.
-You’re introducing bottles, pumping, or returning to work and need a feeding/pumping plan.
-You’re transitioning to weaning and want to do it comfortably and safely.

In short, You can see an IBCLC anytime you want reassurance, comfort, or guidance — not just when things are going wrong. The earlier you get help, the easier it is to prevent bigger challenges later.
