The season of gratitude is here, and it is the perfect time to look at how thankfulness can support the well-being of older adults.

In our new blog, Brittany Austin, National Director of Health and Wellness, shares how simple practices like journaling, meaningful conversations, reminiscing, and adaptive prompts can help residents build a lasting habit of gratitude.

Research shows that thankfulness can improve mood, reduce anxiety and depression, and even support better health outcomes.

Functional Fundamental #3 is Invest in Relationships.

When we take the time to connect, communicate, and support one another, teamwork becomes stronger and outcomes become better. Acts of kindness go a long way too, whether it is staying late to help a coworker or bringing in donated wedding flowers to brighten a resident’s day.

Relationships are at the heart of great care, and every moment we invest in each other makes a difference.

The Humboldt TSVH team knows how to celebrate Veterans Day in style.

With more than 250 steaks on the grill, Director of Rehabilitation Jon James, our resident pitmaster, teamed up with veteran Larry Alford, who is now walking again after months of therapy. Together, they helped serve their fellow veterans and staff an unforgettable meal.

Larry’s journey is proof of what happens when therapy, teamwork, and determination come together.

Veterans at Tennessee State Veterans Home enjoyed a heartfelt celebration with a barbecue, thanks to a resilient veteran and dedicated teamwork.

Earlier this week, Functional Pathways teams came together to honor the strength, courage, and dedication of the men and women who have served our country.

On Monday, November 10, we celebrated the 250th birthdays of the Marines, Army, and Navy by hosting events with refreshments for veterans in our communities.

We are deeply thankful to every veteran who has served and sacrificed for our freedom. Your courage continues to inspire us.

This week’s Functional Fundamental is all about one thing: clarity.

Get Clear on Expectations reminds us that communication is about more than words. It is about respect for each other, for our time, and for the work we do.

When we take the time to slow down, ask questions, and listen, we build stronger connections and deliver our best for our teams and residents.

This November, we’re joining organizations across the country in recognizing Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and showing support for the more than 6.2 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease.

Our memory care programs help residents living with dementia find connection, joy, and purpose through meaningful daily interactions and personalized therapeutic support.

Every person’s story is unique, and memory care should reflect that individuality, rooted in understanding, empathy, and human connection.

Together, we can make a difference.

Functional Pathways is collecting nonperishable food donations to help feed local families through the Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee.

Food is one of the most immediate and meaningful ways to support our neighbors, and every donation truly helps.

If you are able, please consider dropping off items such as peanut or sunflower butter, canned proteins, fruits, vegetables, soups, or staple items like rice, dry beans, pasta, and cereal.

Donations will be accepted through November 14.

Let’s come together to ensure every family in our community has food on the table.

Our Story

Since 1995, Functional Pathways has consistently provided premier contract therapy services throughout the nation. Our mission has always been to make a difference by providing Excellence in Rehabilitation. We believe our values have made a difference in the lives of our patients, our colleagues, and our clients. We value loyal, mutual, long-lasting relationships with customers, patients and each other. We always do what we say we will do. We take complete responsibility for ourselves, our patients and colleagues. We have an environment and expectation of continuous self-improvement. We address the needs of our customers, patients and employees, whatever they may be with innovation, creativity and individualization. We show complete commitment to doing everything we can to improve the lives of our patients. We have passion and are empathetic about care giving.

Functional Pathways enters each new partnership with an eye toward the long term. Our Client Partnership Strategy provides a system by which we inquire about and understand our client’s expectations throughout our partnership. It balances internal tools that guarantee both consistent quality performance and effective client communications.

To-date, our continued partnerships have been predicated on three unique features that set us apart from all other therapy providers. These features include: Our Values, Our Promise, and Our Innovation. Clients that partner with us will also receive these as additional benefits within their own facilities. Our focus on person-centered care and doing what is right, providing better satisfaction of residents and families while optimizing reimbursement and managing compliance. We encourage you to partner with us to make a difference in the lives you touch.
