Pillar Primary Care is Knoxville's oldest and largest direct primary care practice. They care for patients of all ages.

Dr. Mark B McColl is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and Dr. Luke Howell is board certified in Family Medicine. The Pillar PC direct primary care allows patients to have more access to care regardless of insurance coverage. This membership style program includes no cost visits, most in house labs for free, and many send out blood labs are also included free with membership. All other services are offered at 60-90% off retail pricing.

Just a reminder that for Monday through Wednesday (29th, 30th, and 31st) the office will only be open in the morning before lunch. We’ll endeavor to see everyone who needs a sick visit appointment before heading home, so call early. We’ll be closed Thursday and Friday. Feel free to text, call, or email Dr. McColl or Dr. Howell if we can help. We’ll be available as usual.

Starting January 5th we’ll be back to a normal office schedule.

Around the New Year, many of us are creating new goals and plans, especially when it comes to exercise. Regular cardiovascular exercise has many benefits, including improving cholesterol levels (elevating HDL and lowering LDL), enhancing insulin sensitivity, and protection against heart disease. The Pillar PC annual white elephant Christmas Party was a blast! Thank you to all our patients who let us take the afternoon off to celebrate our friendship and the Season. Dr Howell takes the cake as he got an actual white elephant this year. Apparently Marga had been saving it for the last six months for just this occasion.

Seed oils like canola, soybean, and corn oil might be in everything, but they’re not doing your body any favors. High in omega-6 fatty acids, they can drive inflammation when overconsumed, potentially increasing risks of heart disease, obesity, and other chronic issues. They’re often heavily processed, stripping nutrients and adding harmful compounds. Swap them for healthier fats like olive oil, avocado oil, or butter for better balance and less oxidative stress. More exciting news! Last week, Dr. Howell passed his exam to become a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner!! 🎊🎉 His increased training will help benefit patients during perimenopause and post menopause. We'll have more updates soon about the impact of this development. Stay tuned!

It's been an exciting Friday! I've been able to celebrate with several patients today in their health journey success.

One patient reduced his insulin level substantially which allowed for 10lbs of weight loss and a normalization of much of his blood work. He could not wait to tell his adult daughter the good news. She has been his biggest supporter and strongest accountability.

Another patient was down 60lbs, reversed (cured!) his diabetes, stopped his diabetes medication, and is more active and energetic than ever. He's doing amazing and ready to push the limits even further!

We’re excited to introduce, Jenny Glenn, our new Licensed Nutritionist at Pillar Primary Care! 🎉 She is a Certified
Diabetes Counselor and Education Specialist and is a Registered Dietitian. She brings a wealth of experience to the practice and is excited to work with patients to create realistic, personalized nutrition plans that support their long-term health goals. She's got openings in her schedule now for members of the practice (no additional cost!!). And non-members can schedule with her at a cost of $100/hr to get started on achieving their nutritional goals. Spread the word and get in to see her! 🎊
