April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month!

Parkinson’s disease is a neurological condition that affects the brain and how the body moves. It can cause symptoms like shaking (tremors), stiffness, slowed movement, and challenges with balance. It can also affect things we don’t always see, like mood, sleep, and thinking.

People with Parkinson’s are still students, friends, teachers, and family members, just like anyone else. Raising awareness helps us build understanding, reduce stigma, and support those living with it.

Take a moment this month to learn, ask questions, and show kindness, small actions can make a big difference.

🌸 The first day of spring is here… and it’s the final day of spring break at IU Kokomo AES.

As we head into a new season, it’s a perfect time to reflect on growth, renewal, and understanding.

This week also marks Neurodiversity Celebration Week (March 16–22) — a reminder that innovation and progress begin with recognizing that every brain works differently.

Neurodiversity includes ADHD, dyslexia, autism, and more. When we move beyond awareness and take time to understand how people think, learn, and communicate, we create environments where everyone can thrive.

At AES, we believe:
🌱 Neurodiversity isn’t something to fix
🌱 It’s something to understand, support, and design for

When we foster understanding, we build confidence, psychological safety, and stronger communities — in the classroom and beyond.

Let’s carry that mindset into the rest of the semester and all year long.
