Happy physical therapy month! What is physical therapy? Physical therapy is all about motion and mobility!! 🏃🏃‍♀️ Here at Premier Rehab, we offer services such as dry needling (integrative and trigger point), LSVT BIG (treatment for Parkinson’s and neurological disorders), BFR (blood flow restriction), and ASTYM (augmented soft tissue manipulation) as well as hands on treatment by licensed professionals. Our physical therapists have worked with patients of all ages including various athletes, post operative patients, patients with chronic pain, and patients with neurological disorders to assist in returning to their prior level of function!

🌟New Employee Spotlight - Emalee Thrash, OTD, OTR/L🌟
Emalee is from Sebastapol and graduated in May from UMMC! She came to Premier Rehab as an occupational therapy student. We are excited to welcome her back permanently as part of our amazing staff! A fun fact about Emalee is she has a 4 month old little girl that is her world. When asked why she chose Premier Rehab Emalee says, “I completed a 12 week rotation here, and I knew then that I wanted to return as an employee. I love to see the progress patients make and hearing of the difference we make in their lives. I’m happy to be back!”

💜 We wear purple for Payton Rae! 💜
Payton Rae is the daughter of one of our physical therapists, Savannah. She has a rare diagnosis of Rett Syndrome. October is Rett syndrome awareness month!

Rett syndrome is a rare genetic neurological disorder that affects 1 in 10,000 females (and even more rarely in males) and begins to display itself in missed milestones or regression at 6-18 months. Rett syndrome leads to severe impairments, affecting nearly every aspect of life: ability to speak, walk, eat and breathe easily. The hallmark of Rett syndrome is near constant repetitive hand movements while awake. Cognitive assessment in children with Rett syndrome is complicated, but we know that they understand far more than they can communicate to us, evidenced by their bright and attentive eyes, and their ability to express a wide spectrum of moods and emotions.

⭐️Student Spotlight - Lizzie Cain ⭐️
Lizzie is an occupational therapy student at UMMC. She is from Carthage and is completing her level I fieldwork at Premier Rehab! When asked about her plans following graduation, she says she would like to work in a rural area. “I am interested in many populations and settings, and so I plan to work where there is a need.” When asked what she has enjoyed most about her time here at Premier Rehab, Lizzie says, “I loved how everyone has been encouraging and very interested in helping me learn and deverop skills as a future OT. I'm thankful for the valuable hands on learning experience this week!”

Today we highlight Makenzie Simmons, DPT at our Kosciusko location! Makenzie is from Kosciusko and graduated in May from UMMC. She currently holds certification in LSVT BIG, which is a program that is specifically designed to help people with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions.

We are happy to have Makenzie providing physical therapy services here at Premier Rehab!

Today we highlight Amy Tucker, PTA at our Kosciusko location! Amy has been a physical therapy assistant for 29 years. Her former experience includes acute care and home health. Amy brings joy and fun to the physical therapy side, and patients love to come in seeing her smiling face!

Today we highlight Savannah Rutledge, DPT at our Kosciusko location! Savannah has been a physical therapist for five years! She is certified in dry needling which can relieve muscle pain and stiffness. She is also certified in ASTYM which stimulates tissue turnover, scar tissue resorption, and the regeneration of tendons, muscles and other soft tissue structures.

Today we highlight Christi Sims, PT at our Kosciusko location! Christi has been a PT for 30 years! She has been practicing in the outpatient setting for over 10 years and also has experience with home health. Christi specializes in BFRT, blood flow restriction therapy, which allows you to use less weight and still achieve gains in muscle strength and size.
