Kate Townsend

On April 5, 1929, Frances Kathryn McCune (Nannie) came into the world. On January 8, 2026, she went home to be with the Lord.

At 96 years old, she experienced major world milestones, from the Great Depression to the election of our country's 45th president. After that, her memories were lost to ever-worsening dementia. She is the last remaining member of the Kosciusko High School Class of '47. She saw many changes throughout her life but one thing that never changed was her faith. She was a faithful Presbyterian to the end. She loved the Lord and trusted Him, even though her life was never easy. She lived her faith. We rejoice in knowing that, because of her influence in our lives, we will see her again.

Her second great love was her family. She married Ralph Townsend on December 4, 1949 in Ethel, MS. She always put herself last so that we had opportunities she never did. She didn't tell you often that she loved you. You just KNEW. Her patience was endless.

As a little girl, she would sit in her little rocker until her daddy came home at night. She loved riding her bike and roller skating. She hated housework so she told her sister that she'd make her clothes for her doll if she'd do her chores. Once, after Nannie learned to drive, her car horn got stuck as she was driving around the Square. Everyone thought the Armistice had been signed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Annie Velma McCune; her sister Elizabeth Locke (Ed); her husband of almost 60 years, Ralph Townsend, and her great-granddaughter Ava Eliot Thornton.

She is survived by her children Lane Townsend (Janice); her daughter Ann Breedlove; her grandchildren Julie Thornton (her ex grandson-in-law Mark Thornton); James Breedlove, Amanda Kittrell (Mack); Mary Ann Riley (Wes); Kenneth Townsend (Ann Phelps); Dan Townsend (Michelle). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Annelise Thornton, Bryan (Katlin) Kittrell, Jason (Kayla) Kittrell, Hunter Kittrell, Katie Kittrell, William Phelps-Townsend, Abigail Phelps-Townsend, Annabel Phelps-Townsend, Joy Townsend, and Jack Townsend. She also has two great-great grandchildren, Audrey and James Easton.

We would like to extend a special thank you to everyone at Carthage Senior Care. Thank you for loving our Nannie.

We ask you to honor this extraordinary lady by doing some of the things she loved--being with her family, taking a road trip, or finding a good bargain.

We know she is with Jesus and all the people she loved who have gone before her. I don't think you get hungry in heaven, but if you do, she's going to make sure you eat.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Jordan Funeral Home. There will be graveside services at 11:00 a.m. in Monday, January 12, 2026 at the Kosciusko City Cemetery. There will be a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026 at the First Presbyterian Church of Kosciusko, MS.

Those serving as pallbearers are Bryan Kittrell, Jason Kittrell, Hunter Kittrell, Dan Townsend, Eddie Thomas, and Mack Kittrell. Those serving as honorary pallbearers are Butch McMillan, Wirl Hayes, Hugh Potts, Allen Massey, and Billy Lacey.
