As you move through this busy season, remember:

🍪The Hona home frequently smells like homemade goods, but our favorite recipe is Chocolate Chip Cookies by a long shot! 🍪

We wanted to share it with you this holiday season. Our hope is that it brings a bit of sweetness to your life, like it does ours.

🍪 Sourdough Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup butter, softened
¾ cup brown sugar
¼ cup sugar
2 eggs
½ cup active or discard sourdough starter
2 tsps vanilla
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 cups dark chocolate chips

Cream butter + sugars. Add egg, starter, vanilla.
Mix dry ingredients separately, then combine.
Fold in chocolate chips.
Bake at 350°F for 10–12 minutes.

Soft centers. Crisp edges.
Made even better when shared.

❄️When the days feel rushed and the world feels loud, I return to the warmth and comfort of herbs.

This tea is one I make on repeat—grounding, gently spicy, and deeply soothing for the nervous system.

✨ Warming Stress-Soothing Tea
1 tsp Ginger root (circulation + digestion)
1 Cinnamon stick (warming + comforting)
1 tbsp Tulsi or Holy Basil (stress support + clarity)
2 tsp Chamomile (gentle calm)
1 tsp Orange peel (uplifting + cozy)

Simmer gently in 32 oz of water for 10–15 minutes.
Strain into your favorite mug, sip slowly. Let your shoulders drop. Let the warmth reach your core.

Stress doesn’t need to be pushed away—sometimes it just needs to be held. ☕🌿

When the anxiety in my brain won't let me rest, I step outside. La Crosse has a way of reminding me to breathe deeper and soften my pace.

Some of my favorite places to reset:
🍃 Grandad Bluff, specifically the gateway trails, – perspective, always
🌊 Chad Erickson Park – water calms the nervous system
🌲 Hixon Forest Trails – quiet, grounding, restorative
🌅 Great River State Trail – movement + reflection. Eagles are my spirit animal and they are always plentiful this time of year.

Nature doesn’t rush us.
It reminds us we belong.

💫Spiced Herbal Marshmallows💫

Cinnamon • Clove • Ginger

Ingredients
3 Tbsp beef gelatin
1 cup cinnamon, clove & ginger tea, divided
½ cup cinnamon simple syrup
½ cup honey
Powdered sugar, for dusting

Ground cinnamon, for dusting
(or use cornstarch instead of powdered sugar)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Pan
Line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
Dust generously with powdered sugar and cinnamon (or cornstarch). Set aside.

2. Bloom the Gelatin
Pour ½ cup of the herbal tea into a blender.
Sprinkle the beef gelatin evenly over the tea and let it bloom for 5–10 minutes until fully hydrated.
---

3. Cook the Syrup
In a saucepan, combine:
½ cup cinnamon simple syrup
½ cup honey
½ cup remaining herbal tea

Heat over medium heat, stirring gently, until the mixture reaches 230°F (soft-ball stage).
Remove from heat immediately.

4. Whip the Marshmallow
With the blender on low, carefully pour the hot syrup mixture into the bloomed gelatin.
Increase to high speed and blend for 8–10 minutes, until the mixture becomes thick, fluffy, and forms soft peaks.

5. Set the Marshmallows

Quickly pour the marshmallow mixture into the prepared pan.
Smooth the top with a spatula (lightly oiled if needed).
Dust the top with more powdered sugar and cinnamon.

6. Chill & Cut

Refrigerate for at least 2–3 hours, or until fully set.
Lift out using parchment, dust a knife, and cut into squares.
Toss cut edges lightly in powdered sugar to prevent sticking.

Serving Ideas
☕️Float in herbal chai or hot cocoa
⛺️Toast lightly over a flame
🍯Gift in parchment bags with a cinnamon stick

Let’s bring homemade back to the holidays.
Fresh bread on the counter. Herbal infused honey. Simple gifts made with intention. 🌿✨

Here’s a quick recipe to try this week:
Cranberry–Sage Simple Syrup (perfect for mocktails, pancakes, sparkling water)

1 cup fresh cranberries
1 cup water
½ cup honey
4–5 sage leaves, dried or fresh

Bring to a simmer on stove top for 10 minutes → strain → bottle and enjoy.
This one tastes like winter woods + cozy fireside.
