When women have their annual exams, breast and cervical cancer can be detected in the early stages when it is more curable and survivable. When women and men have access to birth control, they have a better chance of achieving education, career, and economic goals therefore providing a healthier, more resourceful environment for their children when they are ready to make them a priority. When adolescents are given medically accurate sexuality education, including abstinence, they are more likely to delay the onset of sexual in*******se and more likely to use contraception and condoms when engaging in sexual behavior. All individuals should have the personal freedom to choose the timing, number, and spacing of their children. All services are provided in harmony with the personal beliefs of each client.

Last week, we joined Sen. LaTonya Johnson, Sec. of State Sarah Godlewski, and advocates from WIDOCC, Motherhood for Good, and across Wisconsin for a Maternal Health Roundtable focused on addressing the maternal and infant mortality crisis.

The conversation came on the same day the legislature voted to expand Medicaid coverage to 12 months postpartum, a meaningful step forward for new moms and families across our state.

As Alyson, Director of Community Relations, shared, “Each of us has a role, from raising awareness to shaping policy… making these connections is really important for our patients.”

At PPWI, we’ll continue connecting pregnant patients to prenatal and doula care and ensuring they can return to us after delivery for ongoing sexual and reproductive health care.
