Ever wonder what your teacher means when they say Trikonasana or Setu Bandha Sarvangasana? These words might sound unfamiliar at first, but they are an important part of yoga’s tradition and connection to its roots. Each Sanskrit name carries meaning, structure, and purpose that guide how we approach the pose and the practice itself.

In Iyengar Yoga, Sanskrit reminds us that yoga is more than movement. It’s about precision, awareness, and the relationship between body and mind.

✨ Trikonasana (Triangle Pose) strengthens the legs and opens the chest.
✨ Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend) quiets the mind and lengthens the spine.
✨ Tadasana (Mountain Pose) teaches grounding, stability, and balance.
✨ Savasana (Co**se Pose) invites complete relaxation and renewal.
✨ Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (Bridge Pose) lifts the heart and energizes the body.

Learning these words helps students connect more deeply to their practice and to yoga’s cultural and philosophical roots. Try repeating them to yourself during class or as you move through each pose. Over time, the language begins to feel familiar, and the meaning behind each word becomes part of how you move, focus, and breathe.
