"A Life lived in service to others is a life that echoes forever"

After 22 years of dedicated service at Locust Grove Village, Charlotte Rathke is retiring. Throughout her career in senior care, Charlotte helped transform the traditional concept of a “nursing home” into a true home — a place where residents thrive with dignity, purpose, and compassion.
She championed person-centered care, believing that quality of life is just as important as quality clinical excellence. Under her leadership, the focus shifted from rigid routines to honoring each resident’s unique preferences and voice. Residents were treated as family, and staff were empowered to lead with heart.
Charlotte’s service extended beyond Locust Grove Village through her work with LeadingAge, where she contributed to strategic planning and strengthened the profession as a whole. Her leadership has left a lasting impact on Rush County and the many lives she touched.
We are forever grateful for her commitment and service to this community. She will be deeply missed.
Friends, colleagues, and community members are invited to a come-and-go reception at Locust Grove Village, 701 W. 6th, La Crosse, on Friday, March 13, from 2–4 p.m., to help wish Charlotte well on her new adventure.

Its was a great day celebrating National Men’s Day on November 19!

We welcomed the Otis-Bison High School young men and sponsor Stan Ewy for a luncheon with our male residents and staff. After getting acquainted, the group enjoyed a grilled hot dog luncheon. The youth shared about 6-man football, played by OBHS, giving information on the field and rule changes from what the elders had experienced.

They shared about their current involvements and interests as well as their plans for the future. Residents were able to talk about their high schools attended and years graduated, many having played football. The men shared some interesting job stories, such as working for $1.50 an hour at their first job. It was a meaningful time for all in attendance. Thank you, Otis Bison school and Stan Ewy for joining us to celebrate Men’s Day!

HALLOWEEN FUN

LGV residents and staff thoroughly enjoyed the Halloween parade and singing provided by the LaCrosse Elementary school.

It took special coordination and support this year with our Elementary classes in their new school. THANK YOU USD 395 for continuing to support these events between the young people and our elders.

We appreciate you! By the looks on the faces of all participating and attending it was a huge success!

LGV residents, family and staff have been having a grand time celebrating the fall events.

Staff enjoyed wearing pink in honor of Breast Cancer awareness month. LGV offers a comprehensive health plan for staff that includes preventative measures like mammography screening.

Our residents always enjoy the school music program sharing their talents with us. The choir was on and performed a great afternoon of music.

We enjoyed our Family Octoberfest as well with music from Wes Windholz and many German dishes. We had bierochs, green bean dumpling soup and kuchen as well as wonderful sides brought by our family members. It was a foot stomping good time.

What’s next at LGV? Stay tuned.
