School Exclusion Day is Wednesday, February 25 📚

School Exclusion Day is when students who are not up to date on required immunizations may be excluded from school, unless they have an exemption . This is beneficial because it helps protect students, families, and the community from preventable diseases and keeps classrooms safe and healthy.

CHD Public Health can help review your child’s immunization record and get them fully caught up if needed, so they can stay in school without interruption. 👩‍⚕️ Call us at 541-962-8800 to schedule an appointment, and visit chdinc.org/school-exclusions for more information.

Measles has been confirmed in Oregon. While not in our region, it’s a good reminder to stay informed and protected. 🛡️

Measles is more than a rash. It can lead to serious complications like pneumonia and brain swelling, and can suppress the immune system for up to 3 years, making it harder to fight off other illnesses. It can be especially dangerous for infants and pregnant individuals. 👶🤰

The measles vaccine has been safely used for over 70 years and remains the best protection.

CHD offers immunizations for children and adults. Stop by our Friday drop in clinic from 8am to 1pm or call to schedule an appointment.

The R-word is back. And it's hurting people with disabilities. 💔

The New York Times recently featured three amazing people from The Arc community speaking out about this harmful slur's resurgence.

The R-word is back. And it's hurting people with disabilities. 💔

The New York Times recently featured three amazing people from The Arc community speaking out about this harmful slur's resurgence.

Their words are powerful:

💬 "Language used by bullies to bully."
💬 "They all called me the R-word, and I tried to be nice, but it was hurtful."
💬 "It makes me want to run, hide and curl up into a ball."

For decades, disability advocates fought to remove this word from laws and everyday language. Seeing it return isn't just heartbreaking—it's a warning about how we value respect and inclusion.

✨ What you can do TODAY:

- Read the article (gift link): tinyurl.com/yc2fw6va
- Don't use this word
- Speak up when others do

Words matter. ❤️

Today (and every day), we celebrate amazing individuals living with Angelman syndrome and honor their strength, joy, and unique journeys. From childhood milestones to adult achievements, every story matters.

Angelman syndrome is a rare genetic condition that can affect movement, speech, development, and often includes seizures, but it’s also known for big smiles, frequent laughter, and truly incredible personalities.

At Center for Human Development, Inc., we’re proud to support individuals and families through our Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities programs by offering daily living supports, meaningful community connections, and opportunities for independence and belonging.

If you or someone you know could benefit from services, we’re here to help.
