Moms often fear their baby is fussy because of their milk and as often as we tell them it’s very unlikely, the proof is in the (research) pudding!
First off, it’s important to know the definition of colic: 3+ hours of crying, 3+ days/ week for 3+ weeks. There’s a lot we still don’t know about colic, including what exactly causes it.
Here’s what we do know, thanks to this study:
🟡 Colic is less likely in infants who were exclusively breastfed vs those who were mixed fed (breastmilk and formula).
🟡 Instances of colic were also lower for those infants who received formula during the first week and then went on to receive exclusive breastmilk.
🟡 Colic peaked between 7-9 weeks and was typically gone after 12 weeks.
Colic is draining, but temporary. 👊🏻🫶🏻
