Actinic Keratoses, or AKs, concern us because they have the potential to evolve into Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

They can usually be felt by your fingertips and are often mistaken for dry skin. The hallmark is that they do not go away, even with moisturizers.

There are many ways to treat actinic keratoses. If you notice any red, dry, scaly spots that are persistent or worsening over time, it is recommended to have them treated. It is estimated that 10% of untreated actinic keratoses progress to squamous cell carcinoma.

What is this hard-to-pronounce disease you might ask? or HS is a condition that causes red, swollen, painful bumps to form on the body, usually in places where the skin rubs together. These bumps can sometimes cause so much pain they make it difficult to move.

This is not a time to ignore your health. If you think you are suffering from HS, now may be the time to see a board-certified dermatologist. You can find out more about HS from Christina Avilina, PA-C in this month's blog post.

While there are many skin conditions that are relatively harmless, others can be painful and even make it hard to move at times. One of those in particular is Hidradenitis Suppurativa.  Here to tell us all about this skin condition is Christina Avilina, PA-C. About Christina Avilina, PA-C Christina...

"The symptoms of impetigo are distinct, but can easily be confused with other skin conditions. This is why it’s so important to make an appointment with your dermatologist before any sort of self-diagnosis."

We get it! We try to not go to the doctor unless we feel we absolutely have to. With the power of the internet it makes it easier to do this. However, some things should not be left to a self diagnosis.

Elizabeth Drumm, FNP-C, DCNP tells us about and why it is important to get a proper diagnosis for this contagious skin disease in this month's blog post.

The last thing any of us wants is a skin infection. However, they do happen and it’s important to know what you’re dealing with when it inevitably finds you.
