The average primary care visit in America lasts 7 minutes—barely enough time to confirm current medications, let alone understand a patient's life circumstances and health goals.

Our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Greg Whisman, sat down with The Healthcare Blog to discuss how CareMore approaches primary care differently. The conversation covered longer appointment times and wrapping team-based care around patients—including social work, case management, and 24/7 access to nurse practitioners.

For seniors managing chronic conditions, this model makes a measurable difference. As Dr. Whisman explains, "So much of what determines how a patient does, how they avoid going to the ER, how they stay out of the hospital happens outside that 7 minutes."

Planning to spend more time with family during the holidays this year? You might notice changes in a loved one that worry you.

Memory lapses, confusion about familiar places, or difficulty following conversations can be concerning.

What can you do?
• Trust your instincts — you know your loved one best
• Keep a list of specific examples of concerning behaviors
• Encourage a visit with their primary care doctor
• Offer to attend the appointment with them for support

Remember: Not all memory changes indicate dementia. Medications, depression, stress, or other health conditions can affect memory and thinking.

We know these conversations are difficult. Our providers take time to listen to your concerns, conduct thorough evaluations, and provide clear guidance for you and your loved ones.

Early evaluation leads to better outcomes and peace of mind. If you're worried, don't wait — schedule an appointment today.

Great healthcare starts with great primary care. But what does that mean?

It means that:
• Your doctor knows your name, your history, and your health goals
• You can get a same-day appointment when you are sick
• Your care team collaborates so nothing falls through the cracks
• You're treated as a whole person, not just a list of symptoms
• Prevention gets as much attention as treatment

Most importantly: You have time to ask questions, voice concerns, and feel truly heard during every appointment.

This isn't revolutionary, it's just good medicine. Experience the difference that personalized primary care makes.

Fall is here, and so is flu season. Getting your flu shot is one of the simplest ways to protect yourself and your loved ones.

The CDC recommends everyone 6 months and older get vaccinated by the end of October.

Why get vaccinated now?
• It takes about 2 weeks for protection to build up
• Flu activity typically peaks between December and February
• Even if you get sick, vaccination can make symptoms milder and shorter

Getting a flu vaccine is fast and easy at:
• Your CareMore Health clinic (appointments recommended but not required)
• A pharmacy near you.

Medicare patients: Are you taking advantage of all the preventive services your benefits cover?

Here's what you might be missing:
• Annual wellness visits
• Cardiovascular screenings
• Bone density tests
• Glaucoma screenings
• Diabetes screenings
• Cancer screenings (mammograms, colonoscopy, etc.)
• Vaccinations (flu, pneumonia, shingles)

Preventive services help catch health issues early, when they’re often easier to treat and less likely to become serious.

Pro tip: Schedule your annual wellness visit first — your provider can help you determine which other screenings you're due for and help you plan them throughout the year.

Don't wait until you feel sick. Preventive care catches problems early when they're easier and less expensive to treat.

At CareMore Health, we’ll help you keep track of your screenings, send reminders, and coordinate your care so it’s simple and stress-free.

Taking medications as prescribed can be harder than it sounds. Between busy schedules, side effects, and complex instructions, it’s easy to miss doses or stop altogether.

Here are a few tips for staying on top of your medications:
✅ Use a pill organizer: Fill it weekly to see at a glance what you’ve taken.
✅ Set reminders on your cellphone: Multiple alarms help you stay on track.
✅ Keep a medication list: Note what each one is for so you know why it matters.
✅ Talk to your pharmacist: They can suggest timing strategies and answer questions about side effects.
✅ Link to daily habits: Pair your medications with things you already do, such as your morning coffee or evening TV.

Most importantly, never stop taking prescribed medications without talking to your doctor, even if you feel better.

At CareMore Health, your care team makes sure your medications work well together and fit into your daily routine.

📞 Questions about your medications? Don’t hesitate to ask — call your local clinic to set up a medication review with your primary care physician. We’re here to help.

🩺 Managing a chronic condition like COPD can feel overwhelming — but the right support makes a difference.

Patients in CareMore Health’s COPD program had 47% fewer hospital admissions and 59% fewer bed days compared to those not in the program. That means fewer trips to the hospital and more time doing the things that matter most.

What made the difference in those patients’ care?
• Providers who listen and take time to understand their concerns
• Care teams that stay connected between appointments
• Same-day appointments for illnesses or urgent care needs
• Ongoing follow-up and medication support

With the right care team by your side, you can have more good days.

What do your hobbies have to do with your treatment plan?

Personalized care starts with getting to know the person — even their hobbies. Internal medicine specialist Dr. Bhavesh Jansari explains.

"At CareMore Health, we’re always genuinely interested in patients' beliefs and also will be more interested in their hobbies," he said. "And that helps me to create their personalized treatment plan with compassion."

Dr. Jansari, a CareMore Health physician for 17 years, specializes in geriatric primary care and chronic disease management.

In his practice, he has patients who are golfers, writers, and singers. "Because our patients are diverse, our care is too."

By listening closely and treating the whole person, we provide care that’s both personalized and effective.
