Trust me - I understand how it feels to be completely exhausted. Some nights I’m so tired I even think about breaking the rules just once and sleeping in my makeup. But then when I go to lay my head on my pillow and I start to drift off to dream land, I jolt awake with guilt and run to the bathroom to remove it. I know better and I’ll share with you just a few of the reasons this is a skincare sin:
•
IT WILL AGE YOU FASTER
If makeup is not properly removed before bed, it can lead to a collagen breakdown. This means your skin ages faster than it is supposed to; drying out, it creates more wrinkles and helps to deepen existing ones and making them more prominent than ever.
•
IT WILL CLOG YOUR PORES
Makeup products have ingredients that block the pores. When the pores are blocked, your skin gets bumpy. If you are acne-prone, it can even lead to breakouts. The oil in your pores build-up and transform itself into a bacteria, which can lead to gnarly breakouts and blackheads.
•
IT WILL DRY AND DAMAGE YOUR SKIN
Skin repairs itself while we sleep, so taking off your makeup at night is important because it allows your pores to release sebum that rehydrates and protects your skin from free radicals in the air. If you leave makeup on, it disrupts these critical processes.
•
IT WILL IRRITATE YOUR EYES
When we don't wash lashes thoroughly, it will kick in to fight off a possible infection. The result: swollen, red, irritated and tired eyes. Another negative result of sleeping in your mascara is that the product can rub into your lashes, causing breakage.
