As many of you may know, I gave my 90 day notice to Piedmont on 12/9/2021. This was done after all efforts to provide bariatric surgery in a manner that was safe and efficient were exhausted. I had become exhausted trying to get many issues corrected within the system. Although there were individuals working with me who were excellent, there needs to be a cultural change within the system and that will take significant time.

I have been diligently investigating an opportunity which I feel will allow me to offer quality bariatric surgery, providing ALL the resources needed and top notch hospital and operating room facilities. There will be efficiency in both the office and hospital , with strong support from administration. I have been super impressed with the level of understanding by the CEO of the resources a bariatric surgery program requires.

I look forward to announcing finalization of my new practice soon, but it will be located within about 2 hours of Columbus/ LaGrange.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! and Stay Tuned!

Bariatric surgery is not about losing weight (although that happens), it is about a healthier you, improving or resolving conditions such as diabetes, sleep apnea, heart disease, arthritis, hypertension, PCOS and others.

Dr Allen joined me in August. He trained under one of the most respected hernia surgeons in the US.

Complicated hernias is his specialty!

“Many of the patients that I perform hernia repairs on see nearly immediate improvement in their quality of life. The fact that I can attain results in such a short amount of time with a repair really provides me with a huge satisfaction,” says Dr. John Allen from WellStar Medical Group General Surgery & Bariatrics. Dr. Allen grew up in a medical family: his father is a dentist and his grandfather was a primary care physician who also served in the US Army. “I was never pushed to join the medical community but was always drawn to it,” he says. Surgery has always been his passion because he loves seeing the positive results both in the short and long term. http://spr.ly/6181EGgCU

Best treatment for Diabetes II is surgery (Sleeve Gastrectomy or Gastric By-Pass). The results are much better than with medication.

Video on msnbc.com: A new study in the New England Journal of Medicine demonstrates that patients with severe, out-of-control diabetes who received either gastric banding surgery or gastric bypass, had lower blood sugar -- long before they lost weight. NBC’s Robert Bazell reports.
