I’m not saying with shouldn’t be real with one another.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t share our birth stories…even the traumatic ones and the ones that didn’t go as planned.

I’m not saying we should sugarcoat things.

💥Here’s what I am saying:

Let’s be gentle with one another during a vulnerable and often nerve wrecking time.

Let’s not exaggerate how hard birth is or how scary or traumatizing our birth stories were.

Let’s support one another and set expecting moms up for success in childbirth.

Let’s build up trust in the birth process and confidence in being able to do it in expecting women.

This is violation of consent. There is no reason the mother and the baby cannot have a moment to meet each other. A moment for the baby to process their birth, before expelling fluids. A moment for the mother to gaze upon her baby and for her to process what she just went through.

The cold air is stimulating enough for the baby to realize they have been born.

Not to mention the vernix being wiped away, making it harder for the baby to regulate body temperature and leaving the babies skin more vulnerable.

They are damaging that initial mother-baby bond by not allowing the mother (what she literally asked) the time to process.

Sometimes birth happens in weird places. Like the toilet or the bathroom floor. And that is totally ok!

Nursing during pregnancy.
Is it safe? In most cases, yes.

Will the older child "steal" all the nutrients from the baby? No! The body prioritizes nutrients for the newborn, and your breasts know wich child is on wich breast. (Even if you switch mid-feed)

Is it comfortable? Not for everyone. Aversions are so normal!
