March is Women’s History Month.

Women experience unique mental health challenges—from caregiving burnout to workplace inequities, reproductive mental health, trauma, and systemic barriers to care.

We honor the resilience of women and the pioneers in psychiatry and psychology who have shaped the field—including trailblazers like Dr. Mamie Phipps Clark, whose work reshaped our understanding of racial identity and child development.

Mental health care must center women’s lived experiences—across race, culture, sexuality, and ability.

Healing is personal. Advocacy is collective.

✨ Therapist Spotlight: Xero (they/them), Clinical Intern ✨

Xero is a graduate student with a background in sociocultural and mental health research. They work with q***r/LGBTQ+, non-monogamous/polyam, kinky, and neurodivergent communities, and have special interest in sexual intimacy, sexual trauma, religious/cult trauma, ADHD, and autism.

Their approach is intersectionality-informed narrative therapy—working collaboratively to examine and reshape life stories in ways that support growth and authenticity. Xero’s style is adaptive, flexible, and eclectic, integrating modalities like CBT and systems theory. Sessions are welcoming, casual, and grounded in radical honesty.

Xero believes that while we may not always change the causes of our struggles, we can learn to thrive where we are.

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

Neurodiversity is not something to “fix”—it’s something to understand, support, and honor.

Children, teens, and adults with developmental differences deserve accessible, affirming mental health care tailored to their strengths and needs.

Connection begins with listening.

The first day of spring invites renewal—and today is also International Day of Happiness.

Seasonal shifts can bring lighter days, but they can also bring transitions, change, and emotional resets. Growth doesn’t have to be dramatic. Small shifts matter.

Happiness isn’t constant—and it doesn’t have to be. Mental health isn’t about feeling joyful all the time. It’s about having the tools to move through the full range of emotions with support, connection, and self-compassion.

As we welcome spring, try a gentle mental health refresh:
🌿 Declutter one small space
🌿 Step outside for 10 minutes
🌿 Set one realistic intention
🌿 Practice a mindful breathing exercise

Today, we celebrate connection. Moments of peace. Laughter. Healing in progress.

All emotions belong—and every season of your growth matters. Dive deeper in our latest blog. www.ciascounseling.com/blog In A Square

Substance use is often connected to coping—stress, trauma, loneliness, or untreated mental health concerns.

During National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week, we encourage conversations rooted in education—not shame.

Support looks like:
• Understanding underlying stressors
• Building healthier coping tools
• Creating judgment-free spaces
• Addressing co-occurring mental health conditions with structured care

For adults needing more support than weekly therapy, our virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers a structured, evidence-based path toward recovery—while still allowing you to maintain work, school, and family responsibilities.

Through CBT, DBT skills, trauma-informed care, group support, and individualized treatment planning, our IOP helps individuals build sustainable coping tools and long-term recovery strategies.

Healing is possible, and seeking support is a strength.

If you’re in Washington State and looking for compassionate, accessible care, we’re here. www.ciascounseling.com/iop

Today is World Sleep Day.

For many people—especially parents, caregivers, students, and those managing anxiety—sleep can feel out of reach.

If racing thoughts keep you awake, try:

✨ A grounding exercise (5-4-3-2-1 method)
✨ Gentle breathwork
✨ Writing down worries before bed

If sleep struggles are ongoing, therapy can help address the root causes.

Sleep and mental health are deeply connected.

Chronic sleep disruption can increase anxiety, impact mood regulation, and intensify depression symptoms. And mental health challenges can make restful sleep harder to access.

Small shifts can help:

• Consistent sleep schedule
• Limiting screen time before bed
• Creating a calming wind-down routine
• Reducing caffeine late in the day

Rest is not laziness—it’s essential care.

On International Women’s Day, we honor the emotional labor, leadership, caregiving, advocacy, and strength women carry every day.

Women—especially women of color, q***r women, trans women, and women with disabilities—often face higher rates of anxiety, depression, trauma, and systemic barriers to care.

Mental health care should feel safe, affirming, and culturally responsive.

Your voice. Your story. Your healing. It matters.
