A lot of life happened while I was hibernating. Among a sh*t-ton of other events and changes, I experienced burnout while supporting my clients that needed care in the MIC. My third baby’s birth rewired my brain and healed my heart in ways I’m still realizing months later. I think our souls conspired together. He came fast and bright like a shooting star. 💫 I had no choice but to trust.

*full disclosure, the cord burning ended with me getting nervous and asking for my mom’s help cutting the cord instead 🫣 that was enough trusting the process for one day

I think about this all the time.

The way newborns are treated after birth informs their nervous systems, and the neural connections they make impact their brain architecture. How can we help those connections send messages of safety and security?

• immediate skin-to-skin and avoid disruption during golden hour
• handle them gently and with respect
• speak to them about what’s happening during exams or potential interventions

Newborns are wise, sensitive beings. They deserve to be treated as such.

I’m available and taking clients in Sumter, Marion, Lake, Orange, and Citrus counties! Please be wise and hire a good doula.

Communities need doula care. They need Black doulas and Indigenous doulas and Q***r doulas. They need doulas who will see them and love them where they are.

We’re not a luxury. We are harm reduction. We’re not only present at births with twinkly lights and ambient music, but at the transfers, the home births in barely safe houses, the under-funded hospitals. We’re at teen births. We’re at stillbirths. We’re holding your hand at the 36th hour of labor and quietly praying for your peace. We’re there because birth is the beginning of new lives, and that matters. How else will we heal cycles of inter generational trauma if not at the start of new generations?

Idk if you can tell, but I’m still annoyed about the birth video where the L&D nurse was nicely saying how she “couldn’t let” the mom deliver standing up while she was in the midst of pushing.

Birthwork is humbling. It’s work that feels so much bigger than me. The duality of birth leaves me in awe. It’s powerful and raw, but still so full of softness. Even when the world is literally on fire, birth persists. It’s a constant in the chaos. It gives me hope.
I love every single person I’ve ever had the privilege to hold space for during their labor. I am eternally grateful that I get to bear witness to it.
