Tree of Life Counseling and Consulting is a multiculturally focused group counseling practice that seeks to bridge the gap for ethnic, linguistic, LGBTQ+ and QTBIPOC minority communities in the Acadiana area. Self‑Harm Awareness Month is a reminder that many young people struggle silently, and parents often feel unsure of what to do. 💛

Ashli King, LPC‑S, NCC, encourages parents to respond with calm, curiosity, and compassion. Children need emotional safety, not fear or punishment, when they’re hurting.

Listening without judgment, validating their feelings, and seeking professional support can make a meaningful difference in their healing.

You don’t have to navigate it alone, and neither do they.

To schedule a session with Ashli, call our office at (337) 703‑2806. 🌳

Help us wish a very Happy Birthday to Grethel Aguirre‑Poirrier, the heart of our front office! 🎉💛

Grethel is the first person our clients speak to and the first warm smile they see when they walk through our doors. She sets the tone for safety, kindness, and care long before anyone enters a therapy room.

Her patience, organization, and genuine compassion keep Tree of Life running smoothly — and her presence makes our space feel welcoming to every single person who comes in seeking support.

Grethel, thank you for all you do. We appreciate you more than words can say.
Happy Birthday!

Sometimes you can understand your trauma logically and still feel it in your body. 🌳

You can know you’re safe and still jump at a sound, shut down during conflict, or feel shame rise out of nowhere. That gap between “I know” and “I still feel it” is where EMDR can make a difference.

In her latest blog, Joy Norwood, LPC, explains why talk therapy alone isn’t always enough for trauma healing and how EMDR helps the brain reprocess memories at the root. EMDR works with the parts of the brain that store fear, shame, and overwhelm — helping clients finally experience relief, not just insight. If you’ve done the work but still feel stuck, EMDR may offer the shift your mind and body have been waiting for.

Women’s History Month is a reminder that so much of what we know about healing, identity, and emotional well‑being exists because women dared to study it, name it, and fight for it. 🌳✨

From Mamie Phipps Clark’s groundbreaking research on racial identity, to Marsha Linehan’s development of DBT, to Bebe Moore Campbell’s advocacy for mental health equity, women have shaped the field in powerful ways. Their work continues to guide how we show up for ourselves, our communities, and our healing.

Here’s to the women who made space for us to understand our minds with more compassion and clarity.

Many parents hear “play therapy” and think it’s just toys and imagination, but the truth is that play is one of the most effective ways children communicate, process emotions, and build regulation skills. 🎨✨

In her latest blog, Amanda Reed, LPC, CIC‑Csp, breaks down the most common myths from parents — including the belief that play therapy is “just playing,” that only severe cases qualify, or that time‑outs work better. The reality is that play therapy is structured, evidence‑based, and developmentally aligned.

Sleep Awareness Week reminds us that rest is one of the most powerful tools we have for emotional and mental well‑being. 😴✨

When we’re tired, everything feels heavier. When we’re rested, our bodies regulate better, our thoughts feel clearer, and our emotions feel more manageable.

As a clinician, Aureyon Conner, PLPC, can see how often sleep struggles show up alongside stress, anxiety, and burnout. Therapy can help you understand your patterns, build healthier routines, and create space for the rest your body has been asking for.

To schedule a session with Aureyon, call our office at (337) 703‑2806.
