...And your lats are connected to your...arm bone...WAIT....That's not how the song goes?! But it is how anatomy goes!

Did you know?

The latissimus dorsi better known as “the lats” attach to your humerus (upper arm bone) and the spinous process of your thoracic spine?!

YOUR ARM! You read that right. Many do not know this. See the muscles in action here: https://youtu.be/djt4RV6a8ek

That means this large back muscle directly influences shoulder mechanics.

Its primary actions include:

• Shoulder extension
• Shoulder hyperextension
• Shoulder adduction
• Medial (internal) rotation of the arm
• Shoulder depression
• Assists in scapular retraction

Because of its size and leverage, tight or overactive lats can affect shoulder mobility, rib positioning, breathing mechanics, and even low back tension.

Big muscle. Big influence.

Ready to expand your mind and challenge so much misinformation out there.

Walk into almost any gym, open YouTube or open a generic mobility app and you’ll see it:

“Do this 10-minute full-body stretch routine daily.” It sounds smart. Balanced. Efficient.

Stretch everything and you’ll feel better… right?

Not necessarily. Let’s not forget what may be bad can actually feel good - for a moment.

As a Functional Neuromyofascial Therapist, I can tell you this:

Our body didn’t tighten for comfort - it adapted for survival. When the brain senses instability, injury, stress or threat, it increases muscle tone to create stability. Tightness is a safety strategy of the body. The body would rather be stiff than unstable. That’s why general full body stretch...

What a blessing.

Some unexpected time with Brad Tate a UFC and renowned Pro Hand Wrapper & Cutman. Brad was sharing with us some of his technical knowledge.

Hand wrapping isn’t just tape and gauze.
It’s protection.
It’s performance.
It’s precision under pressure.
It’s everything under the gloves landing the strikes!

Wrapping at his level he displayed:
🥊 Structural integrity – Creating a cast that protects metacarpals while still allowing speed and snap.
🧠 Strategic compression – Knowing where to lock down vs. where to allow mobility.
🔥 Energy transfer mechanics – Wrapping to enhance kinetic chain delivery, not restrict it.
⚡ Efficiency – Knowledge of management backstage when adrenaline is high and commissions are watching. Timing for the athlete to integrate the wraps.
🩹 Individualization – Adjusting for hand size, prior fractures and traumas, knuckle padding needs and fighting style.

Grateful for the opportunity to learn golden nuggets about what others see only as the “small detail” that can make all the difference. 🥊 Excited to keep learning more from Walter.

Always a student!

Sitting - is it really the new smoking?

Let's Chat!

From text-neck to tech-neck to the computer slump, as people spend more of their lives slumping over a computer and hunching over a smartphone, we’re all hearing how our posture is a problem.

BUT do you know just how much of a problem it is? The research has been rolling in on this topic for years now.

How many hours a day do you sit (including for your job - at a desk)?
