Every year as Black History Month comes to an end, I have this deep wave of emotion that comes over me…
Gratitude for the ones who marched when it wasn’t safe.
For the ones who spoke when their voices shook.
For the ones who built doors where there were only walls.
This studio exists because of that bravery.
Zen Den was never meant to look like the “typical” yoga space. It was never meant to feel exclusive, quiet in the wrong ways, or intimidating. It was meant to feel alive. Welcoming. Real.
The inclusivity here is written into the walls. From the teachers, to students of all races, sizes, and backgrounds... wow.
Spaces like this were not always accessible.
They weren't always safe.
And that shift didn’t happen accidentally.
It happened because Black activists, leaders, organizers, and everyday people demanded better. Demanded equality. Demanded visibility. Demanded that spaces like this exist fully.
I’m here to carry that legacy forward.
Not just in February.
Every single day.
Through community & representation.
Through making sure when you walk into this room, you feel seen... not tolerated. Celebrated & not judged.
And I don’t carry it alone.
Every time you show up.
Every time you bring a friend.
Every time you take up space on your mat unapologetically…
You are continuing the legacy too.
Black history is not separate from this studio.
It’s woven into it.
And I am endlessly grateful for those who paved the way, and for all of you who keep walking it with me. With US!🤎
