2025 was a really good year… but one of my proudest moments didn’t come with a milestone or a title , it came quietly, at sunrise, in a mama’s bathroom just a few short weeks ago when I got to attend a homebirth alongside my little cousin, Gracie. Our first birth together!

Rewind almost 20 years and I was caring for her as a young teen, carrying her around on my hip. Years later, she was the one carrying my boys, helping me through my own early motherhood. And now she’s a mother herself, with a deep love for birthwork that feels both new and ancient at the same time.

Gracie trained through Mary’s Hands, started her own doula business (), and now also works as our administrative assistant at The Natural BirthHouse. Watching her take her first steps into this calling has been one of the sweetest full-circle moments of my life.

That morning, I slipped into our BirthHouse mama’s home just before sunrise. Gracie was already there with hands steady on this mama’s hips, meeting her breath for breath in the bathroom. Down the hall I could hear that low, primal moan that tells you a baby is close… and layered over it was Gracie’s calm, grounded voice. Present. Confident. It wasn’t long before the baby arrived, another beautiful, peaceful birth.

And there I stood in awe next to my baby cousin as the sound of new life filled the air.
Together we were sharing something holy. Yes the birth, but also her.
Watching this once-upon-a-time baby girl stand fully in her womanhood, walking in a calling to serve.

Gracie, I am so very proud of you and excited for your future!!

Flashback to this day in 2024! Believe it or not, we made the news for one of Acadiana’s first babies of the new year just a few hours after this post!

This year the baby we thought would be the first baby of 2026 came a night early 🤷‍♀️

We have several babies in the running, but we aren’t overly optimistic that we will ring in 2026 with a BirthHouse birthday celebration this year. For those on baby watch, we will keep you posted!!

✨ The countdown to 2025 is on, and so is the race for our FIRST BABY OF THE NEW YEAR! ✨

Tonight, we’ve got 8 babies competing for the title! Among them, we’re thrilled to have 2 repeat clients —what a joy to continue being part of their birth stories!

A systematic review of 24 RCTs found that prenatal exercise makes a big impact on perinatal mental health:

✨ Prevents prenatal depression & anxiety
✨ Treats existing depression & anxiety during pregnancy
✨ Reduces risk of postpartum depression

And the most effective types?

💥Yoga + maternal gymnastics for prevention
💥Yoga + meditation for depression treatment
💥Yoga + fertility dance for anxiety treatment
💥Water aerobics + resistance training for PPD prevention

This is some of the strongest, most precise evidence we have that exercise is not merely “good for you” but a clinical intervention for maternal mental health.

Our office will be open Mondays & Tuesdays ONLY for the next two weeks while our team gets some well-deserved rest.

(We wouldn’t want to miss any of those special holiday birthdays though, so yes our midwives are still on call 24/7 for our BirthHouse families!)

It’s been such a special week for our BirthHouse mamas! 🤍
We had FOUR beautiful deliveries, all just in time for Christmas!

Each birth was such a joy to attend... some from our beloved BirthHouse and others from . Whether families chose the support of our birth center or the comfort of a planned , our commitment to personalized, safe, and evidence-based care stayed the same. And with two mamas delivering in two locations barely two hours apart, this week was a reminder that ’tis the season for compassionate teamwork!

Our team of THREE midwives feels incredibly blessed this holiday season to do this work and is honored to serve Acadiana families wherever they feel safest to birth. It's been such a gift to witness these beginnings, so as our gift to you we are grateful to share....
