Congratulations to Senior Deputy Coroner Caroline Hanau and Deputy Coroner Aubrey Bryak for getting their two submissions accepted for presentation at the 78th Annual American Academy of Forensic Sciences Conference in 2026! This conference brings together thousands of forensic professionals, researchers, students, and experts from around the world to share ideas and discoveries in the field.

Caroline and Aubrey will be collaborating on a case study presentation titled “A Digital Forensic Phone Download Solves a Homicide Case: ‘I’ll Help You After I Watch You Die’” and a poster presentation titled “Medicolegal Death Investigation and the Use of Digital Latent Print Analysis in Establishing Positive Identification on Complex, High Profile, and Time-Sensitive Cases.” Great teamwork, and thank you both for representing our office and contributing to the field of forensic science!

The TCCOR is currently working on obtaining positive identification for the decedent.

Please see the below media release regarding the preliminary autopsy findings for Dynasty Battle, victim on the fatal shooting that occurred on 10/15/2025. The preliminary cause of death has been ruled as a gunshot wound of the chest with the preliminary manner being homicide.

A forensic autopsy is scheduled for 10/17/2025.

Please see the below media release regarding a death that occurred on 9/28/2025. Lennis Mitchell reportedly experienced a medical emergency shortly after being taken into custody by LPD on 9/22/2025 and was transported to Franciscan East Hospital, where he was declared deceased on 9/28/2025.

A forensic autopsy will be performed on 9/30/2025.

Below is a media release regarding the motor vehicle crash that occurred on 9/20/2025. The decedent has been positively identified as 42 year old Naomi Spann.

Preliminary autopsy findings show her cause of death to be multiple blunt force injuries due to MVC.

Please see the below media release regarding the motor vehicle crash that occurred on 9/20/2025 at County Roads 300 West and 600 South near Monticello, Indiana. A female passenger was transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana where she later died.

We are currently working to establish positive identification. An autopsy will be performed later today.
