Our latest review of real-world Medicare claims data, just published in the International Journal of Tissue Repair, comes at an important moment for wound care.

The study shows that placenta-based tissue products perform on par with currently covered cellular and matrix-based products for lower extremity diabetic ulcers, challenging the assumption that “non-covered” means “less effective.”

We fully support the intent behind the new LCD and welcome policies that bring accountability, consistency, and integrity to our space. Our hope is simply for a thoughtful transition, one that ensures effective, evidence-supported products remain accessible to the physicians and patients who rely on them.

A special thank you to the authors of this important paper for their rigorous, data-driven work and for helping advance the evidence base in wound healing.

Real-world evidence matters. Innovation matters. Policies that reflect both will help payors, industry, providers and patients, move forward together.

UPPP stands for Unite, Protect, Prevent, Prevail — four pillars that reflect what it takes to stop the spread of infection and create safer spaces for all.
